Church of Rataje + size of the world

TL;DR: Beautiful. Big.

I was able to take a look into a build which included lots of already finished assets. One of the assets is the church of Rataje. It’s a great building with lots of details in it. There are some decorations in the building that would make a good pattern and could be reused over and over again. However it’s not treated like a repetitive pattern, each part of it is unique, be it the floor tiles or the painted curtains. The paintings are very detailed and the altar is restored (I think it doesn’t exist like that today), it all looks really really pretty. I couldn’t find any images publicly available for it, that’s why I can’t say how it looks in comparison to the real one.

Now to the map size: It’s big enough IMHO to go exploring. Also I’ve been visiting the places where the latest screenshots originated and it’s not like the screenshots had lots of extra polishing-treatment. It’s the real deal in the game as well. Currently it looks like dense woods will be the border of the world which is quite okay. Besides the villages and castles we’ve seen so far, there will be small camps and settlements scattered around the world. I’ve even found the place with the bloody horse massacre. So it took me several minutes to fly through the world to find those places. Walking the same distance takes way more time and because of lowered rendering distance I might have missed some points of interest and some of these might not even be in the build I’ve seen. For the orientation at night you can pretty much use the lights in the distance and should be able to identify towns by their amount and structure of torches and camp fires. The light was emitted even at very long distances, specifically the camp fires.

As a short conclusion: I’m quite happy with the size and content so far. It just needs to be filled with life (people, animals, quests) to make this world a worthwhile experience.

A secret photo of rataje map?

Nope, sorry, can’t give away anything. I’m afraid they’ll burn me alive and record the sounds for their game if I did that.

Well the goal is realism…

Sorry, but you have to make sacrifices…

I require some clarification.
For some time I observe you having some kind of deep relationship with WHS, It almost seems you live there.
So whats going on?

totally wrong… not Warhorse will do that…
I’ll do it, if you have no map for me.
The 1st Mod… TheRealPainSounds_v1.7z Mod

I’m the first inofficial forum moderator outside the team who handled the Geman forum before Tobi has taken care of it. I also translated the website into German so I did this all for free so far. Some kind of compensation is the visit of the studio for 2 weeks (which ends this Sunday) and I got the chance to see certain QA modules as well as the whole map with the so far created assets. I know lots of secrets about the adaptive music system which I can’t talk about of course. I did some recordings with @NLY during the BotN and on a cemetery and I provided him with some ideas on how he can implement some sounds. So it’s not like I was sitting there waiting for someone to entertain me, I try support them in one way or another.

This should pretty much sum up the relationship as well as what I did for the 2 weeks here in Prague (besides eating, drinking, sleeping, watching icehockey matches and playing SNES/Arcade Machine/Amiga games)

It was not my intention to suggest that you were waiting to be entertained.
Just that I saw that you are not a part of a dev team and still have access to information which common backer would not have.
So I wanted to know the story behind it.

Anyway thank you for explanation. And I am gratefull on behalf of any gaming community that people like you exist who do things without need of monetary reward.

don’t know exactly but look at YuusouAmazing’s badge!
i think it was part of King Pledge

No no, I didn’t mean it that way either. I just wanted to make sure that I tried my best not to disrupt the production in general.

Nope it wasn’t a part of it. It’s actually part of the Illuminatus tier, which I certainly can’t afford. Basically I don’t know if I need that anyway, maybe only for the shield and sword, since the studio visit is already done

I don´t get accorded the honour of visiting Warhose Studios as YussouAmazing do, but as I worked on the inofficial map I also have some knowledge about the topic of map.
I also think that it is made of an reasonable size now with lots of interesting places and some space to explore. Here I have made a speculation about borders of the map. Red area is the old 9km² area. Blue one is the new area with additional space and village of Úžice. I was puzzle about the lower half of blue area, because I could not find some information about it and it was pretty empty. As you can see it was not part of the old map, because of the emptiness and a small creek was part of the old border.
But than I found this picture and as you can see there are some red dots showing markers on the map for interesting points. And this bit of the map fits in here, so we can confirm the lower half of new area as a part of the playable map.
I don´t know about the lower right corner, maybe this part of the forest could also be a part of the new map, but to be honest I doubt about it. I don´t think the area marked as “Maybe?” will be a playable area.
And there is of course the western border of river sazava. I think the river is a perfect natural fitting border and we will not be able to cross it. The blurred map shows the key of the map in the lower left corner as a grey box and we even have some colorful post-its in this area used as notes because there is nothing important to the game in this area.

@YuusouAmazing as I also see dense forest as borders, I am not sure if the border will be a few meters into the forest or the edge of the forest? I think there will be both, areas where you can explore some parts of the forest borders and also areas where you can not enter the dense forest at all. Do you know something about this? Will we be able to enter some of the border forests on the edges?

Nope I don’t know anything. I honestly didn’t ask about anything at all. I just wanted to experience it without getting lots of insight regarding the whole structure of the world as I’m always afraid to give away some information that is not even internally confirmed or might be changed during the development. These dense woods are also very generic so they won’t be filled with content, I guess.

Nevertheless, its not this important where exactly the border is at the wood. There are not many borders where it could be relevant. Only in east of new area, mainly in the lower “empty” half between the creeks and in northern west of Stříbrná Skalice.

There is a village missing on the map it is near Stříbrná Skalice and it is called Hradové Střimelice. It is older than Skalice and also there is a castle and there were silver mines.

Sadly this is outside of map, I also would love to see Český Šternberk south of Rataje, but this will not happened either.
But its not only about villages and castles, its about a certain story. So in Stříbrná Skalice some other things happened than in Hradové Střimelice, Lord of Skalice is important to story and Rataje is important to Lord of Skalice. Hradové Střimelice is not so important to story.

Well it was pretty important because founder of the castle was main judge (judex terrae) of Czech Kingdom.
Next owner became Hussite. Translate this article http://www.hradovestrimelice.estranky.cz/clanky/historie.html there is a lot of interesting things. And Hradové Střimelice also became part of Stříbrná Skalice so technicaly it should be there…
