I hope the game follows the Dragon Age 2 devs’ philosophy and every time you press a button, something awesome happens.
I think Ryse styled finishing moves have no place in this game.
Not bashing anybody, but if that is what you want…play Ryse.
I want this game to be as realistic as can be. I want the true brutal warfare, i want to feel like i’m scrapping with somebody tooth and nail to win the fight. I dont need any double front flip roundhouse kick and stab bull.
The only “killmove” i could warrant, is to give somebody an honorable death after a long close fight. (i.e a sword down the spine from behind, im no historian, what ever was done back in the day)
I wouldn’t mind seeing some more cinematic kills done in specific parts of the game, the execution of a villain/rival or such.
Having it done on every other enemy might get tedious.
I actually don’t want
“truely bad-ass killmoves”
realism > fancy hollywood crap
I hope they don’t do kill moves, but decapitation would be great, I could imagine that your sword has a percentage to decapitate someone, while his armour works has a percentage to block the decapitation, depending on how good the armour/weapon is. Also, Speed or Combo (parrys) should give a boost to decapitation or make it worse.
Decapitate isn’t easy, step away from what you know from movies or other games. Imagine yourself in combat man vs man, sword vs sword, do you have time to aim the right spot on the moving enemy and hit it with all your strenght? And of course you have to got really sharp sword …
generally the fancier or “cooler” the kill move, the less realistic. one of the dev videos showed a really realistic “kill move” already. basically the player trusted the sword into the enemy’s neck/face before he had a chance to strike, ending the fight immediately with the enemy out of commission and crumpling to the ground.
that’s what a “kill move” would look like. direct, efficient. it’s a battle, no one wants to exert extra energy on acrobatics pakrour and other hollywood poop. basically every game movie got it wrong, so don’t use those as examples for what combat should look like. assassins creed is especially shit.
There Is one primary reason not to include kill moves, they are horribly invasive, taking control away from the player In order to “look cool”. I hope they aren’t included, but from what I’ve seen of the combat so far It doesn’t really look like you have much freedom anyway.
It’s not easy, but have in mind that good armour costed alot of Money and the japanese had even better Also, there are week spots (Depending on the armour), you couldn’t have your whole body covered with steel, because you would be unable to move. There was no armour at the axilla, because you would be unable to move your arms and some armours had nothing to protect your neck, which would make a decapitation from behind easier, but you would probably just shove your sword through his mouth/neck.
You do have alot of freedom. You can’t just stop your sword in the middle of the swing, and momentum is necessary to ahve a good strike, which is why you follow the way your sword moves, you don’t have alot of control about your sword anyway, because it’s quite heavy (greatswords). For me it looks realistic.
Assassin’s creed is a action, parkour game with some history and little bit of fantasy You can’t compare that game with KCD, that’s like trying to compare a car with a apple. Also that’s like saying street fighter is shot, because the combat is unrealistic ^^
While I also ravish your bloodlust, I think killmoves distract from the fighting which could still be going on around you. It takes away from combat flow and situational awareness in combat. I’m not a fan of large numbers of combos either. But at the same time I do hope that the killing blow is portrayed as something sensible. In a way, the taking of life in battle is quite spiritual.
A good balanced sword that weight around 2 kilos or more ishardly heavy. I also don’t think armour weight is much of a problem, if anything it would be restrictive breathing and heat.
@Hodor That’s why I said “Greatswords” 2-handed sword, Zweihänder, whatever you want to call it Also, full armour was quite heavy (15-20kg) which could make a significant Change in battle (It’s still less what soldiers have today) Also, it’s quite hard to stop a strike (even with a simple sword) in mid-air, as the sword will still move, if you don’t have it in a good grip (Physics)
Killmoves like in Assassins creed are defenitively wrong at this game. But killmoves like in the trailers of this game aren’t
I think that kill moves are necessary for the game. I’m not talking about flashy kill moves, but fast and efficient kill moves. As of right now, you still kill armored opponents by slashing their armor, it is just that for some reason their armor becomes magically ineffective because they get tired, which makes no sense. Instead, once you deplete their stamina or get them on the ground, you should be able to initiate a kill move based on historical techniques where you defeat their armor by thrusting into the gaps or by bashing the vulnerable parts. It doesn’t even have to kill them, it could just incapacitate them, give a man a concussion and a shattered collar bone and he won’t be too much of a threat anymore.
