Combat is really fun! but performance sucks!

The game is fun, the world, looks okay even on low, but I don’t understand why it is running this badly?! it’s in beta, I couldn’t even play in alpha, but it’s beta now, why is my FPS 25-29 on low?..

My specs:
Possessor: Inter® Core™ i7 CPU
Ram: 8.00GB
System type: Windows 10 64 bit
Display adapter: ASUS R9 280 series

should I not with these specs should be able to run this game on low with 60 FPS at least? is this the games fault or is my PC just bad at this point?

If it is the game, how long will it take to get the performance right? I really want to be able to play the beta with minimal performance issues, I could understand why it was running badly in the alpha but this is beta. Beta is suppose to have minimal problems with things that were in game.

Other than this. Love the combat, played a bit, but fixing the performance, would make combat and the game itself so much funner…

The game is not optimized yet and so aren´t the settings for Low, Medium and High.

So how we can test it when its not optimized?

its playable, just not smooth. You can test it quite well even at low fps, mine works at 30fps and its just fine. Occassional lags are bigger issue for me

when will it be optimized?..

Sorry to say, but optimisation is the last step. First they have to complete all features…

That’s a bad idea though, even star citizen optimizes there Alpha and I can run that on low with no problem, how can a game be fun when you can’t even really play it? (or…not play it like it’s suppose to be) I’ve bought a tier with the alpha and beta access for a reason…This just sucks. I couldn’t play the alpha (FPS was 15 to 19 and my game crashed after the last update on the alpha. Warhorse said they would fix this in the beta (witch they did) But now, even the beta has performance problems, so what was the point in buying a tier with the alpha and beta access if you can’t even enjoy or even sometimes play it? I knew bugs were to be expected, and I was fine with the FPS problems in Alpha but in the beta I was expecting a fun experience…I realize warhorse aren’t a big game company, and I know they are trying hard to make this a good game, but why not wait a bit and just fix optimizations just for a update, because if the final game is like this, people will be very, very mad…

Well there is some optimization with every update. A few weeks ago beta was running with less then 10 FPS on really good computers, and we optimized it to a playable stage. But this is not the final optimization and you can not expect this during the early development process, because if you change and add features, the optimization has to made again.

I get stuttering in the whole beta

5930k
980ti
16gb ram

and performance is even worse than rise of the tomb raider heaviest area, I’m playing at 3440x1440, cpu and gpu are oc’d so I can’t imagine how worse it is for others with lower spec :scream:

agreed that the performance is way worse than star citizen which is limited by it’s networking system, I’m a backer of both games.

Why don’t you guys go ahead and implement a dx12 or better a Vulkan render, this game seams to be heavily CPU bound i bet because of all the AI running around and those API’s are a god send on this cases.

Are you serious? When the cryengine supports DX12, WH will take a look…

Yes i’m serious and why would they need Cryengine to implement a dx12 or a Vulkan render? Don’t they have access to the source code? And don’t they have coders with sufficient knowledge to do it?
You don’t need the original engine makers to implement stuff, if you have access to the source code of the engine, that i bet warhorse have, if not that is crazy and is why they are having many problems.
Many teams take a existente engine, for example they take Unreal Engine and implement their own tech into it, for example Mirror Edge they made their own light render, Thief they implemented AMD Mantle into their UE3 version of the engine, etc, etc

Yeah, I get a solid 20 FPS, down to 14 in populated area. I saw a woman showing her legs to me, then her chest, then I understood that her body was clipping through the blue dress. I guess having an object hidden under the clothes can contribute to the low performances we experience, since the gpu still need to compute those hidden stuff.

This made me laugh though.

Let´s say it so, at the moment is the priority to make an own rendering path, very low. :slightly_smiling:

Especially when somebody is gonna do it for you eventually… :))

Sort of. The hidden triangles must still be updated but the hidden pixels are depth tested and discarded if they’re occluded. At this point it’d be a micro optimization.

I have to say that I am very pleasantly surprised by the performance. In contrast to the last alpha, now the game is silky smooth and I can finally enjoy the combat properly (the combat is really awesome, just like the OP said).

Win 7
i7-4770K
GTX 780 Ti
16 GB RAM

Very high, 1920x1080: 30-40 fps, very little stuttering only when loading a new area

actually, for some reason the game will run for me in nearly the same framerate on highest settings as it does on low. but on low i get a whole lot of strange stuff, like slow loading textures and such, which dont appear on highest settings. running this just fine at around 22 fps in 1080p with just 8 gigs of ram. of course loading new areas and crowded places make the game run a bit slower but thats actually fine. looking forward to when optimization is close to done :3

One of the moderators just few hours ago posted me a videa showing off differences of very high and low details settings…

To sum it up-there are almost none  As those settings aren´t optimized aswell, they have very little influence on both detail level and fps.

I actually found sweetspot at running on high, but with limited shadows and some special effects, it seems to work fine.

Hey @nmk, do you think the games runs better because of your 16GiB of ram, your gpu, or is it your cpu that enable you to get so high FPS? Like OP, I have a R9 280X, which in truth is just a HD 7970 with factory OC and new label. But I have an old phenom X4 and 12 GiB of ram.

In the combat area, it runs so poorly that I either sucks at fighting with a sword or the game low framerate makes me unable to do any combo. And to be fair the combo with the mouse are a bit shaky, if I send my mouse too far I’ll disengage combat altogether and start spinning because I lost my bearing. In a way, the combat system seems like a QTE without the hints on the screen: push A to parry, parry at the last time to counter, etc.
