Ask Hussites about that.
Agree with above - 1 vs 1 its fine. When fighting multiple enemies it is death. You lose control and find Henry doing things that you did not intend. The AI that you are facing inevitably goes backwards and the auto lock draws you to him, exposing your flanks and rear.
Just right now I had an encounter with two men-at-arms (hence I shall refer to them as MAAs) in the woods. At first I thought “Alright, I’ll just walk backwards and hope they don’t encircle my unarmored buttocks”. But no. They had A DOG. The dog attacks me. At first Henry decides not to target it, and once he does, the target lock instantly switches to the nearest MAA. Who doesn’t attack. The second one did. I knew he would. But he was behind me, so Henry couldn’t POSSIBLY anticipate that the angry bandit standing behind him could, you know, possibly, just MAYBE try stabbing him in the back. So I can’t switch my target. I get hit in the back. The dog keeps biting and I keep not being able to target it. And when MAA 1 performs a combo, Henry is FORCED to target him, even tho now the OTHER MAA is more likely to attack. Which he does. Killing me. Thank you, Henry.
I got into that a bit ago and I kept backing up, keeping my human enemies in front of my while hitting the dog with my shield everytime it went to bite me. The key thing is that when you get rid of the dog to keep backing up away from your armed enemies so you can regenerate stamina. Combos in that scenerio are rare but necessary. If you get it right, you can knock em with a combo, regenerate stamina, then knock em with a combo again to kill one at a time. If you do it right, you should be able to bare through it without dying. Note: I was unsuccessful in this situation. However, my Henry was not skilled enough to use the weapon I had been using and was low level in combat.
