Compilation of bugs, quest issues, and spitballing (possible spoilers)

I have attempted 3 different Play-Through and found many different issues - some game breaking - some not.
Because reporting them one by one is getting to be cumbersome, I figured i’d create a thread where I list them as I find them.

I’m starting fresh from the latest 1.4 patch, so I won’t re-list the bugs I already reported for clarity sake.

Quest: The Prey.
No Kill play-through is impossible if you own a horse.
Issue: Owning a horse automatically triggers you following Hans. Following hans delivers you to the Cumans. Running away from the cumans and wating time until they sleep for a knockout is possible, but Hans won’t “wake up” until the cumans are actually dead.
Same thing happens if you take them on in hand to saber/bow combat and knock them out. The issue persists any way you try and kill them.
The only thing I could not try was to poison the camp’s food for I had no poison on me. I’m pretty sure they wouldn’t die from eating anyway.
Either way, in terms of attempting a no kill play-through this was game breaking.

Now, assume you are fed up with this bull and you have cumans knocked out - the only option is to pick up hans - after-all you can’t leave him there. You do and you trek all the way to the nearest place, the tamlberg huntsman… you fail the quest because you “left hans behind” even though he’s on your shoulder.

Quest: The Hunt Begins
If you stealth knockout the thug before or after he murders his mate, and you take him while unconscious to Bernard - instead of capturing him to have the torturer question him properly about the camp location, he waits for him to wake up and kills him. Now what? he then rushes to the other dead guy - no idea why.

This quest and other issues I had in the past could both be sorted out by a little game-play mechanics fix.

Carrying an unconscious body is NOT always a bad thing - yet guards assume you are carrying a dead body.
Shouldn’t a more civilized approach such as a “questioning” prompt as to “what are you doing with that person”?
Say the character being carried is indeed a cuman, and you want to take him to jail (like in the specific side quest where you may actually get to if you can talk to him and did not bug out).
Shouldn’t you be given an option to do so when talking to the first guard that spots you?
“oh hey I’m carrying this cuman to jail by hand because I’m hardcore henry and I figured why not do it by actually fast traveling with him on my shoulder”.
To that, the guard would obviously say
“oh well… he is a cuman, let me help you with that” - fast travels to rattay jail…

Better yet, how about an option to take a bandit or cuman that is unconscious - as well with a few other characters like rapota - to jail by holding E ?
Wouldn’t this prevent issues altogether with MANY quests? Anyway that’s the spit-balling portion. I will surely share more bugs as I spot them.

Likely related to the 1.4 patch - Repeated crashes during cut scenes for quest Pestilence.
working on workarounds, nothing much yet.

Current Quest state:
It’s night time. Can’t talk to vincent - Have to knock him out, drag him to the street, wait for the patrol to wake him up, and hope he doesn’t just go back to bed.

Likewise, no option to give the potion to Marikar.

Around 1 hour after administering to the prisoner he wakes up. Talking and going though his options will trigger the cut scene that crashes the game.

This is actually a quest issue as well - You can’t talk to straw to give him the cure. You have to target his wife until you read Inspeact rather then talk.

Waiting 24 after administering the cure will also make the game crash - with another cut scene.
Going to try a mod to disable cut scenes and see if it makes any difference - nothing that does that yet - unfortunate.

I found a way to skip the quest entirely however, sneak into the barn and execute the captive. take his letter. move on. Plague won’t even initiate. (in my case I killed the captive with a console command, attempting a very impossible no-kill play-trough that is just constantly hampered by bugs.)
One more note - To get Radzig to show up you have to start the Plague Quest, and get Nicodemus to Merojhed. Radzig will then eventually arrive at the camp.

Yet another bug - All That Glisters
Ulrich can not be knocked out and will not surrender.
There’s really no reason I can’t knock him out like everyone else… Yet another way that a No Kill play-though is essentially impossible.

Well, I carried on until I could.
The same bug that prevents ESC or B to be pressed on the alchemy table or any tutorial is also affecting the message about quests failing that pops up as you approach the fort.

Two major issues plagued the monastery quest:

Circator’s flask randomly becomes non-deliverable. It worked once out of 3 times, and the autosave feature on this is nuts. I mean it literally saves when outside the monastery door, and again when picking up the flask? Stark contrast to the rest of the auto saves.

Circators around the monastery flip their sh*t and toss you in a hole for 2 days - on a first offense, for literally nothing.
This happened twice in the hour or so it took to wait for time to pass in the monastery. (very boring quest because of the time passing thing + loading screens, you should really find an alternative like an “auto skip” after you turn in your task option).

The bug I was experiencing with the “tutorial” esc issue seems to be due to a mod.
Just thought i’d update the situation on this.
In an effort to help you guys - and us users - debug modded games, could you maybe create a “disable mods” console command that essentially creates a temporary save, unloads all mods, and re-loads the save? This would help up making sure the issue is indeed the game’s fault and not our own.

And so the Buglist goes on.
Thereza - taking her out on a date and completing said date with a succesfull “my head is all turned around” speech check resulted in the speech happening again after reaching the mill. followed by a seemingly endless loading screen. I ~ exit ed out of boredom. - Upon the second attempt, everything worked picking the same exact options. No idea what caused it.

I am fairly sure the the late game was not polished at all - So these are indeed bugs, though not necessarily game braking - Just listing them in an effort to help you clean up…

Quest The Die Is Cast:

Going through the trouble of getting your gear back from Erick’s chest does not register - The completed quest actually tells you you did not get it. I’m 100% sure I did…

Always at the end of the quest, Nest of Vipers is updated in the completed quest log with
“My next task was to go to Talmberg and get reinforcements for the attack on the Bandits’ encampment. Sir Divish promised he’d supply several men.”
That’s all fine and dandy, but wasn’t it supposed to be appended to “The die is Cast”? Nest of Vipers was completed now 3 to 4 quests ago… more then that… since Baptism of Fire… 6 quests ago…

At the same time, The main quest that is now “Payback” mentions nest of vipers again. Despite the fact the last quest was actually “The Die is Cast”

Anyway out of the quest log, back to what Didn’t happen during The Die is Cast.

  1. I never got any perk, any Axe training, or anything at all (still 0 out of 50 XP for the first level) after beating up Vanyek, the combat master.
The log states he teaches you “a trick with the axe”.

  2. At the end, Radzig tells you to talk to Bernard for gear - That is never possible. Bernard takes off with the garrison as soon as you get control and that’s that. Talking to him only has an option for paid teaching and the regular “can I ask” which I did check - does not hide an “get me ma gear, daddy said” option… X-P

No notations on Zbyshek’s faith make it to the log…

An issue that might actually be game breaking…
For some reason when I save and Load I have a bailiff that spawns near me and walks up to me - During The Die Is Cast he actually spawned and got beaten up by bandits.
I have noticed this behavior before with Kunesh in the start who just randomly walks up to you and then leaves… Always after loading a save. Figured that’s worth a honorable mention…

I didn’t think we got an update, but since the game appears to be worst off then it was… Fast Travel now takes ages - Waiting time too… Checked several saves. All have this issue.
Version 1.4.1 - 273161

Current version 1.4.2 - Hopefully some stuff will work better.

Graphics are somewhat fixed, but I still think the game looked better before 4.1 ever dropped.
The same graphics bug is still in place - Change graphics settings - or going full screen - will cause the game settings to shift to High.

Changing texture or vegetation quality will have no effect what so ever until you quit and start the game again.
Never mentioned it, but I’m running the game off an M2 drive on a PC with 64G of ram and a watercooled GTX 1080 TI. You hardly need the rest op my specs (i7 7700K) to know that my system isn’t the issue here.
The game simply needs to be restarted for changes to take effect - after making any changes since textures always drop to the lowest possible after any change.

My next issue isn’t a bug but a complaint. Why can’t you get the proper bow posture (bow tilted sideways like on a horse) as the default posture?
I mean’ there’s nothing wrong except the fact that you’d end up with no thumb after the 20th arrow unless you tilt the bow slightly - But what I’d like to probably mention for the Nth time is the fact that Archer’s Paradox is a thing - and that the default shooting posture completely ignores it.
The arrow goes to center screen which is actually NOT where the tip of the arrow sits within the frame.
I’m not sure what the reasoning behind this was. Shooting from a horse works almost perfectly - the tip of the arrow mostly is where the arrow ends up - with an upward paradox as it should be.
I’m thinking a quick adjustment of the base position of the animation would make - at least me - a heck of a lot happier and the shooting without a cursor much easier for everyone.
That’s all the spitballing I have for today. Back to actual issues

So to finish it off - I grew weary of doing the near impossible
During the fight near Talmberg, when you “Wait Wait Wait” for them - the game starts flickering all in blue/azure. This is the 3rd play-through where this is Constant. Not sure how else to describe it.

Minor issue with cut-scenes. it seems that skipping cut-=scenes keeps the voice-over active - leading to some pretty interesting “same person saying 20 things at once” behavior - This probably isn’t recent. I haven’t skipped many cut scenes a bit at a time (I usually hold ESC).

And the last thing which isn’t a bug but I can nitpick at is… Can’t you get Hans a better horse? How about you just match the player’s horse speed exactly?
That way keeping up (or in this case tapping w slowly so that you won’t outrun him by miles) with hans is a lot easier… It’s actually quite painful in this last bit. And I could have sworn he was galloping in one of my previous games. Now it was just a slow trot all the way to the camp… with stuff I most definitely wanted to hear at least once, so keeping up IS important to some.

I’ll probably go through at least one more game, curious to see if any of the stuff that has been an issue got a fix :stuck_out_tongue:

BTW, not really a game bug, but your game and F.Lux really don’t get along… You should have someone check it out for entertainment purposes.

I’m still getting a few of the game-play issues I reported in the latest version. Here is a save game with 1 cuman dead and one Knocked out during The Prey.
You will notice Hans is not conscious until the cuman gets killed.
