Completely 3d HUD and Inventory

I think it would be amazing if the HUD was not just 2d elements superimposed on your screen, but 3d models with distance. It would be cool on a standard monitor, but would really shine on an Oculus Rift where it would really look like there is a compass floating in front of your face, The Witcher did something like this with the amulet in the top let of the screen.

It would also be cool the inventory menu was done in complete 3d, where you are looking at a 3d shelf with all your items, and Henry standing beside the shelf so you can see what you look like. The game “The Forest” has done something like that with their inventory system.

Other nice examples would be new Alone in the Dark, Miasmata and, to an extent, way Far Cry 2 did things.

Now, I love these approaches. On the other hand - it’s a lot of time spent implementing something that’s technically not crucial for the game.

Yeah, I won’t be knocking off any points for my review of the game if they omit 3d HUD elements, but it always irks me when I’m in VR and everything is in perfect stereoscopic 3d and then there are these surreal, unnatural 2d images superimposed in the corner of my eyes. No distance, no real place in the world, they are just there, yet not there; they are like when someone blinks a powerful flashlight in your eyes at midnight and you see these surreal star-like images that are clearly not real objects and don’t belong.

Would be cool however, I think the devs where talking about watering the game down a little bit.

for certain things, 3d inventory would be nice. for average things you carry around like small items, weaponry and tools, they are strapped to your body or you can easily reach into your rucksack for them, so it makes no sense.

i think they could do that for horse inventory. you take it off horse and unfurl it on the ground, then put those things onto your body inventory.

What I was describing to be used for KCD was a menu with a large shelves containing your items, with Henry standing beside it so you can see what you look like, like this but completely 3d and everything is sitting on a 3d rendered shelf instead of floating in hammerspace
