Concerns about archery

Hey, so this has been on my mind for a long time. Basically, when I played beta I walked into a guy in chainmail. I myself was armed with my bow, sword and I had gambeson. I wasn’t really sure if I can stright up beat the guy so I decided to weaken him a bit with my bow. I ended up kiting him for a minute until he ate one too much arrows. I immediately gained all of his chainmail gear. The thing is I’m really concerd that this will end up in full release. I don’t really want to be able to cheese the game this way. It just doesn’t look good. I’m somewhat sure that devs might have already solve this, but I’d rather be sure.

Sorry if there was topic about this already. During my quick search I haven’t found anything.

In current builds when you draw a bow in meele combat, enemy will charge at you full speed and chop you to pieces. No worries

Of course if you have enough distance, or you surprise enemy, you can put him down (useful when outnumbered)

That’s nice. Glad archery won’t be endless kiting.

Surely top tier archers in real life were capable of kiting enemies to keep a moderate range whilst still being able to fire shots.

It’s a great deal slower to fire a bow than games and movies suggest, actually. Much, much harder to aim too. I mean, you could fire with a light bow very easily but any bow that needs to be capable of dealing damage to a human - let alone pierce armour - is going to have a lot of draw weight and thusly be slow to draw.

Well, not exactly. If you don’t have to deal with enemy’s armour or distance, you can use pretty weak bows (say 30-40lbs) to efFectively damage human. But in KCD everybody has at least gambeson, so I agree that heavy bows would be necessary.

I wish they would have made it easier to aim along the shaft of the arrow rather than holding the bow to the side and guessing where the arrow will go.

General european medieval technique was to draw arrow to the chest. They did not look along shaft.

Maybe yes maybe not. It really doesn’t matter since winning your fights by running away for 30 seconds without any risk is just broken for me.

You have a point. The enemy should immediately follow and attack when you flee.

They do follow and attack, just they walk towards you very slowly with their hands in the air.

They do not. Please don´t comment based on 1+ year old videos =)

Do you have any video where they don’t follow slowly with hands in the air?
Because I know none.

Videos are not everything.

The question has been asked and answered ages ago, that behaviour has been fixed for release version. Seriously starting to get annoyed with people crawling out of the woodwork having such awesome “never-been-thought-of-before” complaints and such “original” ideas for the game just a month before release. Where were you lot 4 years ago?

Are there any sources of it, except illiuminations?

But I have watched all of Warhorse Studio’s videos. I haven’t seen one where the enemies charge at you running when you flee. (Maybe I missed something?)

Where in the last half a year is even meele vs archery combat? oO

there is one video where the enemy follows the guy all the way back to allied soldiers and they kill him. This may have been a bug at the time since no one would follow you straight into a death sentence. If I come across the video I will share it.

I know that video already. But in that video Henry also often had to turn around, wait until he comes nearer, run away, wait again and so on.
