How important is it to get the bow from Hans in the contest? I whoop him at archery, but he got me in the melee duel. I could reload and try again, but I got a lot of xp in strength, sword, and warfare. Is it worth it to try again?
Sort of wondering myself. I figured out archery during the contyest and just beat him. It’s a better bow than I had. I should have let him beat me at swordplay though. I’m sure he’s able to hold a grudge.
I kept trying and won. Let him shoot all his arrows and then take your time, you can see if you’re going to get close to his score before you run out of arrows and reload if necessary.
His score is randomised, once he got 14 points but I beat him on the third go when he only got 8.
I beat him in both and really the only reward I got from it was the bow and bragging rights plus whatever experience I gained fighting.
The bow you get from him can be quite useful if you are going to use it. Myself I never bothered really with it until I finished the game, now I am working on all the weapons that I didn’t use.
I managed to beat him on the first try in both archery and the sword fight, somehow. Maybe the difficulty isn’t set that high but I’d hardly shot the bow yet in the game and I managed a near bullseye on my last shot for 12, and he finished with something like 7.
Then he had me reeling with the sword portion, to the point the game suggested considering the surrender option, but I was able to time some blocks better, get a few stabs in, and finally outlast him.
I’ll take that, and his bow as well!
The bow has nice stats for the quite low requirements, so it is a good early game bow. But you will find a better one fairly quick if you want to be an archer, and you can do just a well with a regular bow early game.
story wise I have not seen a difference if you win or not, except in that cutscene where you defeat him.
i beat the littel boy whit the silverspoon in his ass whit bow sword and fist and on top at the rabbit hunt

His bow is really good, but there are better bows like the cuman one and the hunting bows from the rattay hunter
I won too and got the bow, but since I don’t use a bow a lot in general I’m going to sell it for a new sword or some other gear since I’m low on money as well.
go hunting with the bow and you never have groschen problems
There are better bows around in the wall towers, just there to steal (outside box). Your archery level to handle good bows is a bigger problem.
Hi bow is min. stewngth 5. I couldn’t use it right away but once I could I’ve used it ever since, I am now strength 11 and nearly agility 8, once I am I will be switching to the Yew Hunting Bow.
You can also find find plenty of bows early on during the quest right after that one where you have to talk to the bailiff and then patrol with the guard. You will be told to get a kit from the armory first and there are several bows in there you can take and it’s not considered stealing. They are hanging on the wall. There is an elm one with better stats than the Capon bow with basically the same requirements. I always take them and sell them at least anyways.
