That is what I got to say, COOP would ruin the game and it would take more time to make the game. and We dont want to put up with the F#%@ing lag! ARGG

@213 the irrelevant one liners really broke up the convo here. Good job kid.
Back on track, I am really looking forward to the single player game. But like many others on here would love to see some kind of co-op self hosted game play added in the future. Either official release or mod.
Cheers!

My opinion: if the devs could just create the game with the technical possibility of multiplayer and coop but wouldn’t do anything else then I’m sure that some talented modders would use the opportunity to create coop and other multiplayer scenarios and gameplays. So I’d rather ask for that the devs would create the game with the possiblity of multiplayer in the code, just the basics and let the modding community choose the best paths!

They are using CryEngine 3, I would be very surprised if there aren’t ‘basics for multiplayer’ already. I just have no idea how applicable that would be in the game via mods - not all that much I believe. And if you’re asking devs to include multiplayer API for modders… That would be a pretty big development overhead that vast majority of end users would not be affected by at all. (says the guy who’s currently coding a component for about a month that will only be used by a single one of our clients. Frustrating’s what it is.)

No, not necessary. As it happens their funding is limited enough. So the first (second and third) priority has to be delivering what they promised to and what they want to do. If after Act III there still is some money/time/interest on the dev side, maybe they can consider a multiplayer part. But as the people pledged for what they said they are going to do, I think people would be upset if energy is wasted on what only a few want.

Pretty much that, yeah. I honestly don’t understand why would somebody pledge to a single-player RPG and then turn around and say “Oy, I’d also like multiplayer!” It’s like a bunch who pledged to a first person game and said “Well, I hoped third person would be included as well…”

So many decent to mediocre multiplayer games… so few good singplayer ones, at least recently. And that concludes my argument, thank you for my time.

Coop is only good if there’s no story involved. Like in Dark Souls where it’s only good to screw your day.

My feeling exact. I second the coop drop out idea!

Coop drop in and drop out I would love. Just with one friend though not a big thing. Id like to go around with a buddy and explore and fight in battles together.

Have you not played Baldur’s Gate and Neverwinter Nights? Same type of game but multiplayer worked great! Really made the game better in my opinion, Didn’t take away from it at all.

Have not, but they’re not making Baldur’s Gate or Neverwinter Nights. What makes them the same type of game as what this one is aiming for, exactly?

You know the difference between a tactical party RPG and a solo action RPG?

Gameplaywise KCD has more in common with CoD than with Baldurs Gate.

Only difference is the combat. They’re both story driven RPGs.

Only difference is the biggest part of the gameplay. Sure, that’s just a minor thing…

A solo action RPG and a tactical party RPG are two completely different games. That’s just a fact. Of course they share some RPG mechanics. That doesn’t mean that you can take something from one game and just implement it in the other. That won’t work.

To make it more simple: adding MP to a game which already has six player characters is quite easy, especially if you combat systems isn’t based on action. Adding MP to a solo action RPG is like making a completely different game with double the amount of work to do…

… and controls, and perspective, and engine, and focus on single character. Also, neither Baldur’s Gate nor Neverwinter Nights are story-driven games. (and guess why there was no MP in Planescape: Torment…) So yes, they’re both RPGs.

Edit: Another necro, holy crap, why am I getting these topics up here? Sorry.

For what I think, the idea of the dark souls’ coop would be perfect, so you “place” your character in a certain place so that a friend (via password) or everyone can “summon” you, obviously being summoned means that you log out of your world and log into the place where you placed the “character”, this way there wouldn’t be any problem. (I’ve seen just now that I arrived a bit late)

Dude, i totally agree. Now that it’s out and i’ve put some time into, i still see how it could work, i do think it’d more of a “you and your friend” kinda thing vs the random match making thing. At the very least, i’m hopeful that some of those super smart modders out there can make it happen. Again, if you’re into the single player experience- THIS WILL HAVE NO IMPACT ON YOU as you will just have that offline setting (to continue with the Dark Souls comparison). (Better late than never, might be good to get some attention back to this thread if we want to make it happen now that the game has been released.)

The game is about a single protagonist. Other players using their characters in your game are going to be…Henry. Just like you.

And how does a persistent world accommodate multiple henrys?

Coop play would turn this game into a an utter shambles, and would not reflect the vision the developer had at all.
