Could NPC's potentially talk about historical events that were happening elsewhere around Europe at the time?

Imagine if you were in a public area and the NPC’s are conversing about not only what was happening in Bohemia but also mentioning key historical events that would have been spread via work of mouth from other areas of Europe at the time.

There would have been people travelling to and from all different kingdoms at the time and stories from other parts of Europe would have made their way to Bohemia and become a part of everyday interest in conversation.

Obviously not a crucial element to be in the game but i think it would be a nice touch.

Yay! I would be delighted to meet with groups of traveling immigrants. We could trade with foreign merchants, or even write letters to one another from across countries. Wouldn’t it be fun to watch some skit put on by traveling thespians?

you’re mostly seeing local villagers so i doubt it.

And you are also close to one of the largest monasteries in the country.
And you are also a serf of one of the most important lieges of the king, not in one of the most significant cities on the kingdom, yet significant enough to attract at least local-ish travellers (Poles, Hungarians badum-ts, Germans, maybe Frenchmen).
So yes, it is possible and it might happen.
So, yes, it is possible.

Would they receive news from the Balkans via the Hungary-Sigismund-Bohemia connection?

Most likely this will be the only news the npc’s will talk about. We can safely agree this will be part of the game because the Polish are involved in this game and Cumans are east of Hungary which is east of Bohemia.

Dialogue will involve news of Poland, Cuman Host, Hungary, Loyalists, Rebels, Local news(random events, or side quests).

Ah yes a town herald is what we need, I can already hear the headlines.

“Grain prices down to 50 groschen for a barrel of crude grain, GPEC is considering the lowering of grain production”

“Cuman farmer invents oblong wheel”

“Hussite extremists ride incendiary wagon into crowd at the hanging of three criminals in Pest”

“Hungarian scientists prove the earth is flat”

Yup, for example there will, well, shoud, be some mentions of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Nicopolis

“Ottomans tear Hungarian king a new one”
“Burgundians can offer no explanation as to why their tactic of charging failed”
“Hungarians accuse wallachians of cowardice”

Yeah it would be nice if the battle was actually in-game but I suppose it doesn’t fit in the timeframe or story. That said it would be great to see the occasional Hungarian/Cuman or ottoman in their dress traveling through Bohemia.

i doubt the catholics would allow a pagan Cuman or a heathen Ottoman just stroll through the countryside haha

In 1433 (I believe) a Burgundian in Saracen dress (clothing, sword, turban and all) traveled from Damascus to Dijon on horseback. He was well received in the Balkans, only in Austria did some inns refuse him because they thought he was a Turk. I wouldn’t expect hospitality but they didn’t outright kill him.

wow thanks! I thought that is really funny and awesome that some random Burgundian just decided too do that haha.

Well not just random, he was on a mission… From god?

It’s a short read with only 20 lines per page but very entertaining and insightful (and free).

Gift shops trying to scam tourists with worthless crap, one holy sight every twenty miles etc etc. It’s also quite interesting that he notes that many of the holy sites of Christianity are holy sites of Islam too, like Abrahams house and such. Back then Islam was viewed more as a Christian heresy who pray to the same god but just believe the word of a different prophet.

it’s still like that today, except they behave in a drastically different manner, partially because they are no longer a small upstart.
