Daggers still can't be equipped

So…I have read a bit here in the forum, and it seems a lot of people have the same complaint. However they are pretty much getting an earful from some very arrogant people who thinks they have all the answers…and it’s rather annoying to read. Some of the posts about this are as old as from February…

The issue is - yes, the dagger.
Logically it should be possible to use from the start, as it is a weapon as any other. One alternative would be that you cannot use it until the perk “Stealth kill” is unlocked in the “Stealth” skill tree.
Well, at least on Xbox One the dagger can still not be equipped for some reason.
When talking to a trader/blacksmith who are selling a dagger, the off-hand/shield hand lights up in the inventory as you have the dagger selected. However, buying it and then selecting it in the inventory is another matter…the off hand icon does no longer light up, and it is impossible to equip the dagger after all.

So why, after over 8 months, are the daggers still not usable either in combat (not that they would be even slightly useful in combat) or as a stealth-kill weapon?
If they are not meant to work, why have them at all?
“Stealth” --> “Stealth Kill” --> “Allows you to kill from stealth. You have to have a dagger.”
Quite annoying…hmm…

The dagger works perfectly fine as a stealth skill weapon. The way it works is that once you unlock the corresponding perk, if you have a dagger in your inventory, you are able to stealth skill an enemy by getting close to it in a stealth position. The dagger is not considered as a combat weapon but purely a stealth weapon which allow you to kill enemies without starting a fight.

The fact that the dagger lit up the off-hand/shield hand in the inventory on Xbox is probably a bug, but it is not supposed to be used as a combat weapon and work as a stealth weapon.

Thanks for the input.
Maybe it is just a bug in xbox then…I have several daggers and the perk for stealth kill already, but have never been able to equip it…

Well you’re not supposed to equip it, you just need to have it in your inventory. Try and get close to an enemy in a crouching position and the option to stealth kill along with knocking out should be available. Try that and let me know if it doesn’t work.

it’s probably never been the primary weapon of any organized combat, but it’s been used to kill in stealth and non-stealth situations since Homo erectus over a million years ago if not earlier.

in places with (extreme) gun control (eg, the ROK), knife wounds are common… and not because the peeps (eg, Koreans) are role playing as assassins

the problem with your line of thinking is that weapons aren’t only for organized combat

it’s one thing if WH can’t develop the animations, AI and assorted knife mechanics. it’s another to say an open world RPG shouldn’t allow a player to use a weapon in different ways in order to maintain some notion of weapon purity in organized combat

Seems like you also have a problem in your line of thinking since you don’t seem to grasp the problem mentioned by the author and throw another opinion-related problem right at me.

Look. The problem the author of this thread mentioned was that he thought the dagger wasn’t usable at all in either close combat or as a stealth kill weapon. What I’ve done was explaining to him how the dagger is being used in the game as a stealth skill weapon.

Should the dagger be used as a close-combat weapon? Why not. Why is it not? Who knows? They probably didn’t figure out how to make it work and didn’t have the time, or maybe they just don’t intend on doing it that way.

Either way, I’ve never thrown an opinion about using or not using daggers as a close-combat weapon. All I’ve done was helping a guy who has problems in using the dagger in the “intended” way in the game. The rest is another problem/opinion, so please pay more attention to the actual thread and problem before going into opinionated territory.

not really…

or usable in other situations

did you spec it? if not, yours is an opinion no different than mine

And now read the rest of the post… His main problem was that he did not get the dagger to work in any way. And so he assumed the weapon worked like a regular weapon which would mean to equip it to be able to use in close-combat (since you equip it) as well as in stealth skill (which he can’t get to work), but he claimed not being able to equip it (which is intended) and so not being able to make use of the stealth skill.

So why, after over 8 months, are the daggers still not usable either in combat (not that they would be even slightly useful in combat) or as a stealth-kill weapon?

“OR”, “EITHER”. Because he never got it to work in the first place, so he never got the stealth kill to work.

did you spec it? if not, yours is an opinion no different than mine

The thing is…This is NOT an opinion, it’s how stealth skill work in the game currently. I’m not stating how it should be, I’m stating how it actually is right now. And right now the use of the dagger is to have it in your inventory along with the perk to be able to use the option “Stealth Kill”.

Hey guys… what’s the REAL problem with the Dagger not being equipped???

In fact, except for whimsey, what would be the practical usefulness? What would you do that you CAN’T do with any of the already 50 hand weapons available???

In fact, there are plenty of weapons in game that never are used.

OR, is it just for your tastes, may be wanting visual realism…??? Forgive me, but realism is one thing I agree, but making game smoothless is something else.

In fact, it would be bothersome to be equipping the dagger anytime you want to go stealth, specially when you are in hurry mode. Then, you are starting a fight (perhaps you lose your stealth and are being attacked) and use the key to equip your hand weapon to notice that you have a dagger fighting against bandits, then you need to PAUSE again to inventory to change your weapon to sword or mace.

So, I

on PS4, perhaps R2 could toggle melee weapon (main melee weapon vs knife). already does so in a sense when you (attempt to) stealth kill

personally, would be more interesting if some bandits and (yet unknown) enemies approached and then tried to knife you when in close quarters. happened in Roman times (Caesar: Et tu Brute) and happens in modern times. can’t imagine medieval times were devoid of this kind of attack. (in fact, could easily imagine this is how Sir Radzig met his demise). would be nice to be able to fight in kind. not a high priority but something that would add more spice to gameplay

It’s not a bug. You automatically equip it when you stab somebody in the back, from the crouching or behind position. You need a perk to do so.
If you have really read the forum you would have seen this answer or a similar one.

Seems the whole jist of the the thread is that the dagger was expected to be used as a weapon like the rest of the weapons in the game but the Devs did not do that and the OP didn’t understand that and why.

how fucking hard can it be? people are still not able to grasp it? holy shit…
