Day 1 lockpickers appreciation topic

All the complaining about the difficulty of lockpicking makes it seem that the players who have no problem have super skills.

So this one is for you!

Depends on what platform you are on. Controllers are harder to use than keyboard and mouse.
the game was originally set up for PC.
I play with controller but k/b & mouse locks and pick pocketing.

We are all heroes

lol i play on pc, but i want to buy this game for my xbox 1 so bad, just so i can experience this level of difficulty the console players experience. its just gotta be so much fuckin harder using the toggles. but i think id still be sweet at it lol.

It was hard until I understood it. Like all skills in Kcd. Now its too fuckin easy.

Ask miller Peshek for training, he takes you to a ‘training chest’.
Unlock it, open it, close it, look away, look back and it’s locked again - Repeat to get practice and raise your skill.
[edit] works to level you up to about lvl 3 then it stays unlocked, after that there is a door next to it and a locked chest inside the store room, lockpick that too. [/edit]

Controller lockpicking was playable in 1.0-1.1

Something around patch 1.2 where devs tinkered with controller inputs killed the minigame - now lockpick pros will still get it- everyone else just has keyboard envy.

Issue will be found in due time.
I find xbox controllers on pc have ghost inpits/ability to get lovked inputting a movement- wrecks lockpicks!/breaks game.

If the left stick gets really worn or partial broken it will keep giving a fwd move input for a bit.

fastest solution ( and makes mikey soft happy) is buy a new one . you can fix it but it is not a simple DIY job.

am on ps4 I still have no idea what people are on about cuz I find lock picking easy.

Yep. I just don’t understand anyone who says l.p. is hard.

I mean yeah its harder than pc but still it’s no big deal, its still not that hard all games are like that even shooter games aim better on pc, I personally think this confusion is cuz the game gives you a quest early on that makes you lock a pick without training in lock picking, which is also entirely optional, and the game doesn’t tell you that you cant lock harder pick if your lockpicking skill is not high enough so you will just end up breacking lockpicks these two things made people come on the forum and complain about the lock picking which I think its not a big deal and part of the game imho.

A little from column A, a little from column B…

Ive been playing simce close to launch.
Using various wireless controllers (ps4/xbox 360) and keyboard & mouse.

At launch lockpicking via controller was doable even at low lockpicking skill.
Now it just breaks picks.
From the time I let go of the joystick the ‘pick’ keeps shaking for several seconds… generally until it breaks.
Either a deadzone needs to be widened or a sensitivity lowered or a polling rate improved. … something changed with controller input around 1.2 patch.

Lockpicking with keyboard and mose is sooooo easy/ vs the controller which is (now) near impossible.

Hence why the succesful controller lockpickers say they have to ‘do it quickly’.

When the devs realize its a setting they changed -the fix will be easy enough to (re)implement.

This isnt strickly a case of ‘git gud’.

I haven’t really played for a long time I played for a month after release gonna come back and start fresh after the first DLC releases and hardcore mod arrives, so what i said before was when first the game got launched i assumed they made lock picking easier but if its harder now I have nothing to say until i try it.
