Do the guards also confiscate the stolen objects you put in your “home” chest ?
No, the items in your chest are safe, nor do they search your horse. 
So once you hear a guard yelling after you you can quickly transfer all your stolen items to your horse if you think you won’t be able to pass any persuasion.
edit: the more valuable the item the longer it will take for the stolen tag to disappear.
