In fact, I hope to be brutally mocked in hilarious fashion for dying. ESPECIALLY if it’s for doing something stupid.
I like this.
Would be a great motivator not to die again when a group of nearby peasants gather around you and mock your corpse.

that valkyrie idea would be super awesome. i’m torn on this topic personally. there was a game series back in the day, Kings Field (made by From Software, now known for the Souls’ series) and it had a crazy death system. it had save points scattered throughout the land so you could save and if you died you’d have to reload at last save, fairly typical. but when you died, you went all the way back to the beginning. the game just started over. UNLESS, you had a specific item (Dragon Fruit) which would revive you back at this special tree right next to the beginning, but all your progress was still there up to the moment you died. so dying, with this item, was better than reloading a save point, but was bad because you’d have to run all the way back to where you were when you died, which could be a ways. they did also have these special items that let you fast travel between specific locations, so after a while you could get back pretty quickly. i f*$%ing loved that system, because for a while in the game i’d reload a save as it was generally quicker & less painful, but then later i’d accept the death and teleport back and re-fight the baddies in an area or two to get back to where i was. it was punishing, but it also made me cautious to not die. it was always better to run and re-group than to muscle on and try to power through a section. the Souls’ games definitely adopted a similar style of death as a learning experience, but also as something to fear. so i’d really like to see death have real consequence. you “die”, but a local healer finds you and tends you back to life, but you’re down-leveled for a while, and you lose most or all of your inventory since you were likely pillaged by someone before that. something that is harsh but realistic and fair. i’d like there not to be auto-saves, or too many checkpoints really. mostly whatever Warhorse comes up with i just want it to make me fear dying, and not hold my hand when i do and say “it’s okay you died, there’s really no penalty” Your character just f-ing DIED!! there should be a penalty for that. maybe this is too extreme but if it went fully realistic, you’d have to start the game over on death. everytime. because you just died, and are dead, and last i checked dead was dead.
