Sorry if this has been already posted, are there plans for different seasons like Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter? I think it would be interesting walking around Bohemia with snow or even seeing different colors on the trees.
I think it wasnt even mentioned yet. But now that you say it I am pretty interested too.
Yes, it would be cool for sure but the developers stated that its a lot of work to do and for me it is not too important, so I think they should focus on other stuff.
I would like if the different acts are playing in different seasons though. Maybe that could be possible. But too far away for now I guess
Also, the game takes place in just a couple of months, so it makes sense not to go through 4 seasons.
It would not make sence since you will travel between act maps during gamplay randomly. Lets hope for some mods…
right, good point.
I think we can forget this topic…
But I hope the nature looks brilliant since we only have one climate
This would be alot of work on the game, such as making snow textures mix to landscapes, changing leaves to different colors, falling out and dying and making water freeze.
it would be great to have, but probably more trouble than its worth. and besides, most campaigns took place during the summer so there is a perfectly good historical explanation for it, if that matters
It would be a good idea if the game was being developed by a bigger company that could spend the extra time and resources on thing like seasons or weather patterns. The biggest problem is it would be at least 4 times the work that could have been spent elsewhere to make the game overall more functional and the quality that the players are looking for. When dealing with the functions of the game as they are not only would it mean 4 maps of artwork, but also getting the AI to know when the weather changes and to change their activities to match. Wouldn’t be farming in Winter now would ya.
that would inherently end up with B/S dragons and witches and elfs…
Exactly the point. Bigger companies will always do what will sell which has been dragons, magic, and elfs. They have bigger budgets because of it and will continue to do it over and over again until someone else comes up with a new idea that works and then model after that. Bigger companies with the larger budgets don’t take risks so they can pretty up the game more.
to be fair, those companies don’t really do much prettying up(skyrim). and in most cases there is no seasonal transition. they just put all 4 seasons into one map(again skyrim)
Just my two cents that I know have been repeated in other places:
I love the fact that this game is being developed by a smaller, more intimate company. There will always be more “we need this” or “it would be really cool if you added that”. Smaller companies are forced to have focus and, from what I’ve seen with the devs here, they are a very focused bunch.
Day/night cycles are hard enough. Seasons call for an entire change in color pallet and even graphical changes with snow and ice. A larger company could implement it, yes, but a larger company would also be so focused on graphics to draw the more general gamer crowd that it would lose sight of the art and history of this game that is demanded by this voracious fan base. My point is yes would could hope the game gets picked up by a bigger group to add more to the game, but I guarantee this forum would collapse under the weight of fanboys who want nothing more than shiny textures, 10 minute cut scenes and one-click combat (see Assassin’s Creed 3 in comparison to 1, 2, and Brotherhood). Larger companies demand larger payoffs and that means minute details are sacrificed for more general shiny objects to convince even larger producers and investors of assured success.
