Discussing gear & stat progression, balance and the state of the game

I would like to preface this thread by acknowledging the fact of my approval of KC:D as a fantastic RPG and undoubtedly the most immersive and authentic depiction of medieval life in a video game I’ve encountered so far. Warhorse has definitely put itself on my personal radar – of which it shares little company alongside it – and I look forward to all further developments to KC:D itself and any other future releases with much anticipation.

In regards to a technical point of view, I have no qualms with any bugs, glitches, etc. that I expect to certainly be ironed out in due time. However, I would like to instead have a discussion centered around the game’s mechanics; encompassing the effect of the specific cases weapons, armour, perks and stats upon the experience of KC:D.

We are presented with a multitude of methods to solve quests, activities and whatever self-embarked pursuit we undertake. However, I genuinely feel that by the time ‘the mid-game’ is reached (within 25 hours in my case), many obstacles we encounter are rendered trivial, i.e. two or three ripostes at the very most are all that’s required to defeat the wayfaring knight.

There are a multitude of factors that contribute to a state of becoming far too powerful through minimal input and effort, most apparent to me are a few specific quests and tasks; one of which that enables you to attain the most effective longsword (and perhaps weapon) in the game: St. George’s Sword and pieces of armour found via treasure maps.

My issue is: the effort required to attain the aforementioned equipment is far, far more underwhelming than their effectiveness within the game, and as a result, all encounters afterwards are – as I said – rendered trivial.

I understand there is a simple solution: simply avoid collecting these items. However, I’d like to hear your opinions, and see if we can’t glean Warhorse’s response in either balancing the game or considering a separate mode with an amplified difficulty to suit the players seeking a more challenging experience in KC:D.
