Diseases and middle age atmosphere

I am not sure if this is historically correct, or has already been taken up, but I know the middle age as a dirty place due to the fact that the ordinary citizens lacked toilettes and generally knowledge about the dangers of living in their own excretion. Shouldnt you see that their living conditions are more or less unhealthy by implementing ulcers in some peoples faces or people throwing buckets containing a yellow liquid out of their windows? Wouldnt that create a much more realistic atmosphere?

Maybe you could differentiate between rich and poor regions and create one or two castles which are utterly horrible places and should not be travelled through as they feature the danger of coming in contact with a contagious disease like the plaque, moreover these castles could feature a high level of criminality and be exceptionally dangerous for your own health.

You could also introduce a mission to isolate a town in which the plaque has occured.

I’d say they’ve already started on the concept you’re suggesting with their clothing system, yes the Middle Ages; AKA “The Dark Ages” are known for the filthy streets and dirty quality of life. Their clothing system has already started illustrating this with it’s blood, dirt, and damage.

I think your suggestion for illness takes it a step further, and it is; a good suggestion to say the least. Although, I couldn’t help but think of the “Bring out your dead!” Scene from Monty Python while reading it.

Just a myths from a popculture movies. People really didn’t live in their excrements

That was probably too drastic, but they were accompanied by pests like rats and various insects and did not always retreat then someone was dying of something undefinable and generally life was everything but clean  I mean, how could the plaque or the black death have killed around 25million people otherwise. Moreover there was a very rudimentary canalization and they usually threw their excrements in rivers which sometimes functioned as drinking water reserves. So they virtualy lived in the exrements, at least the poor and the very poor.

I would rather stress the fact that 15th century wasn’t just desperate, hopeless waiting for death that comes rather soon due to disease or starve.

Peole were living! Trying to keep themself and their surronding clean and tidy. They do have bath regularly. They wear colorfull cloths and even poor had their games, tournaments and other entertaiment… ie spare time.
That would add more realistic atmosphere in my opinion.

P.S. They drink beer rather then water. Black Death avoided Bohemia. Also similary Spanish Flue in 1918 isn’t proof people lived in absolute filth, covered in mud…

people did wash themselfs and clothes be it without “daz” and "head and shoulders " in rivers etc so it would be good if that was in the game like the village women down in the river washing all the clothes and people bathing etc . however it was common for some bloke to be pouring his shit in the river 3 metres down stream haha

this game is set in the country and there doesnt seem to be a large city in the game in real terms rather a regional capital but that would just be full of traders and soldiers , so i doubt any rich rich locals would be in this sort of area they would be in the capital or large cities rather than large castles

Well cats were quite popular for killing rats and the like, they only suffered a bit during the Black death when people believed they might be responsible for bringing over the disease. After that their population recovered again and rats were kept in some sort of control.

Excrement was usually dumped in a cesspit and not in the water supply, people understood that principle. Countryside a lot of farms had outhouses build over small ditches of non drinking water or a pit, these outhouses remained in use where I live until the Second world war so that isn’t even over a 100 years ago.
