Distraction

I want a way to cause a distraction to get NPCs off their current paths…like a bag of rocks or some such to throw. Would make for less standing in the street waiting to pickpocket or kill; seems to me if this games goes for realism that someone would say something about Henry just standing some where for extended periods of time or following someone around.

I have not really done much stealth beyond the miller’s quests, but that would be nice. The stealth in general is not very realistic as you can basically pick locks in plain view or even sneak. The one time I could not do a stealth quest was because the guard was simply standing in one place, so a distraction would be great.

well if you sneak around people will comment, not sure if they’ll actually do anything though. Like if you dont carry a torch a guard will say something, if you continue to not bring one out they will confront you; id imagine sneaking is the same but I’m not sure.

As for pickpocketing or lock picking, if someone can see you you will definitely get caught…or they’ll say something which I think affects reputation…for example, I sneak steal and kill a lot, but hardly get caught. However, I can spend some time away from town, come back with no bounty and as soon as I pass a guard they want to search me because I have the reputation of a sneak…so I have to monitor my stolen goods unless I want them taken or if I want to pay off a guard, which I do not lol.

I haven’t stolen anything in Rattay in a while, except maybe the miller’s quest stuff and I still get asked, but like you said after an outing I always stop by the miller to sell or offload to my personal chest.

When I first started playing I had to do some jail time as my rep was so bad i couldn’t talk to any vendors, after that I have been more circumspect in what I pilfer. But I do open every single chest to boost my lockpick skill even if I don’t steal.

I like how you can find locked chests of all difficulty that have nothing, or just a cobweb in them…so frustrating but so funny at the same time lol

I can’t pick locks in plain view at all. It seems like I will scout an area out and make sure there is nobody around then after I pick the lock, a guard has magically materialized over my shoulder ready to arrest me and take my hard earned stolen goodies.

Hmm maybe your stealth is really low as I can pick a lock with a person in view, sometimes even in the room with me. I try not to but a couple times I have ran into a room really quick picked open a chest and then noticed a dude sitting in a chair, nothing.

locks make sound too, not just when the pick breaks but the whole time. If someone is say, around the corner but out of sight, they may still hear you. If you want some good xp there are a lot of easy chests in the Neuhof stables and all the houses there, and since there was a massacre (if you’re at that point in the story) the population is pretty low and I’ve only see like 2-3 guards aside from the men there on the search…but they leave eventually I think during the quest, but if not you can run that quest line and then go back and pick locks in an all but vacant town

also, if you didnt know, if you go to the chest where Peshek teaches you how to pick locks you can pick that 10 times…as soon as its unlocked, open it, close it and the look up so the cursor is off the chest and then look back down and it will be locked again…or spin around in a circle and look back onto it, either way.

Thanks @HalfOrcSteve I didn’t know about Peshek’s chest. I’m always looking for new things to pick to get more experience. I picked it once and moved on. I’ll have to go back.

That’s crazy. I will scout an area out and know for sure that nobody is anywhere nearby and then try and pick the lock and a guard will just happen to appear. Must be a stealth issue if they can hear me picking the lock from how far away they are.
