Do I need to do the quests immediately?

I was wondering if one needs to do the quests as they appear. As I play I have an impression that I have to do the task immediately. For example, I just saved Hans from CUmans and the next quest is to go and investigate who killed people around stables. The first task is to go to the courtyard and meet bernard. Do I have to do it immediately or can I have a stroll in the city to sell some stuff, wash myself, meet Theresa…?

I have this constant feeling I need to do the quest ASAP or somebody will get angry…

listen exactly to what the NPCs say. if they tell you to do something now, quickly or sometime do it, when they tell you. if they just tell you “yeah, go to that guy and tell him x” that will not be a quest that is timed.
