For me, the nest everyone else is finding it in, just had a black feather. I know for some the weapon is not in the chest where it should be, so it seems their little event, is buggy as well.

I loaded another playline, one from before 1.4 that the main quest line got bugged on, so I started a new one. Anyway, on that playline, the golden egg is there. I ate it just to see. Too funny lol
To answer your question lordtyrion, yes. on my playline where there is no golden egg, the colored eggs and weapon are there.
damn that just makes it all way more confusing
i foubd it just in the beginning, i ate it. but no noticable effect so far. i searched the internet, nothing about it. would you like to spoiler the effect? thanks in advance

I ate it! There’s always more ways to make money but only one golden egg.
I took it outside the ‘Broken wheel’ inn by Rattay, went to a good spot overlooking the river valley and enjoyed the view. Then up to Sir Bernard and started sparring with him as soon as it wore off- he nearly killed me with his wooden mace!
