Is there some special magic trick to getting over the wall? I have tried quite a few times at the open space
you are supposed to get through, but cannot jump over?
Press E button, when you’re close to the hole in the wall. 
You have to “open” a hole? Who’d have thunk it?

This mission was rough lol but I actually managed to kill my way out by knocking out a couple guards and finding lockpicks to get my shit back. I wasn’t letting them keep my good gear and like 20k grosh
I just jumped over the palisade at some place. On the way I met 20 bandits, ran through them, no hiding, knocking one of them. Just for fun, I didnt suppose to make it and was prepared to reload it and do proper stealth escape. But then, with 10% health and red blood curtain in front my eyes, I jumped out and escaped. lol
For future reference, there’s no need for lockpicks. The key to the chest is on the table, a bit obscured by a beer keg.

Or just leave all your stuff at one of your inn rooms, and they won’t be able to take it.
There’s actually an empty chest in the shack next to Erik’s room. Knowing I’d lose my stuff, I dumped it all in there, got it back, suited up, broke into Erik’s and stole my quest items back (because you can’t stash those). You can’t use your weapons though for some reason. Also, my game gets caught in a never-ending loading loop after the cutscenes in Rattay when you return. Tried both with and without getting my stuff back as described above and still unlimited loading.

If you wait a minute or two, someone just wanders into Erik’s room, leaving the door open. He’s lightly armored, and easily dispatched with fists - or if you’re a stealthy character you can just circle around him and knock him out. Best, of course, is just knocking him out right as he enters the room.
You are right. One time I did find a soldier seated on Erik’s chair.
Im in the exact same situation. Ive been waiting an hour just in case… no luck. I just replayed a second time. Goes to loading screen after cut scene with Hanush and Radzig
Its imposible to cotinue if you have killed all of the bandits before you get knocked out. If you still want to get their gear try to kill all of them and leave one alive (or knock him out and loot his gear as well).
