Fading of cloth dyes

This little idea popped out of a discussion with Grundkurs Gaming and his youtube video about clothes in game.

What he was pointing out is the slightly unrealistic colour of peasants clothes in that era. Basically these kind of colours were either rare or faded very quickly and should look that way as well. Especially in the villages.

So the idea was, would a simple parameter that de-saturates the colour map help to achieve this effect?

Villagers would have more faded clothes, while in the city they would be more colourful even with same type of clothes and while not adding any alternative textures.

Obviously there are far more important things to do in the game, but it looked like a rather simple thing to do imho. Also, yes I have considered that reduction in the colour might have an effect on the general feel of the game. (some might complain it is too grey or what not).

I think that it was mentioned that clothes go dirty after time? So it might be easy to do indeed. Bot honesly this does not concern me that much…

If you think about washing out colors from clothes, I would like to see to begin at the edge of the clothes and sometimes in the middle of clothes where they where more dirty for different reasons. Maybe the wearer has made a mess when he had eaten something. So the color of the cloth was more washed out at this parts of the cloth where the piece of cloth was more washed with the aid of soap, a washboard and/or a brush.
I also imagine patches at the clothes of poorer people.

Thanks for confirming that the fabled ‘end of the internet’ is indeed a real place.
