First want to say is that this game is what i have been looking for a long time. Very realistic and lots of immersion in the middle ages:-) thanks for the good work:-) but there is one thing I’d like to se change. The way farmers dig in the soil. It looks like its their first day at work. looks like ther just fumble whit the soil then actually dig deep into the soil, and then pull the soil back and create deep channels. the farmers play a big part of the middle ages life but in this game they dont look like hard workers. What do you people think?
you’re talking about dynamic terrain furrowing for a simple npc cycle? i think having an “overlay” like the puddles on the soil they’ve worked would be fine.
but yes, their farming isn’t rendered in the most detailed way right now.
What I meant was that the animation look a little newbie. its hard to dig deep channels in the soil. in ther scraping the soil pace it will take ages
Hoeing isn’t necessarily about digging deep channels. It’s usually about turning over the surface soil, and rooting out weeds. Or creating small surface furrows for planting orchard type crops. So I think the animation is fine!
Deep furrows would have been dug using plows. EDIT: And the in-game time of year isn’t the correct time for plowing, if I remember my medieval agricultural calendar correctly.
yes they turn the soil. i did try to find some pictures but its all whit plow. look more like they scraping the top soil while ther tierd or somthing in this game. this is ther life. they do this every day well not every day:-) they had actually more Holidays then we have today.
Exactly. I suppose there should be something actually growing on their fields this time of the year. The dandelions and nettles and cornflowers and clovers and all those trees full of developped leaves don’t remind me of february / march and waste fields. In fact they rather remind me of june and the beginning of summer.
Tobi said somewhere the game is set in the spring of 1403. So there should possibly be some hay mowing, etc.
Video of hoeing and plowing during WWI in the UK: http://www.britishpathe.com/video/land-girls-at-plough-and-hoeing/query/01333100
@plation you are probably thinking of this type of hoeing, which is more for farmland preparation? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nRkXSTTBXzA
Well there are no trees blessed by developed leaves during early spring in the area. Therefore the game must take place during late spring / early summer. (There are even no blooming trees around Samopse as it seems eventhough there is an orchard just above the village.)
Maybe they are working on the orchard trees still. I think you are spot on with late spring/early summer though. Good points.
yes thats what i was thinking. so its called hoeing:-) the way the girls hoeing in the wwi video is more what i want to se in the game.
Just to be clear, the hoeing starts at 0:37 in that WWI video . Isn’t that pretty much what they are doing in the game already?
hehe but i se the differnce. se how they do more long pulls of the soil in the video. not like they do in the game. maybe im little to piky i dont know:-)
I haven’t been on the forums in a long time. I’m so excited they decided to add farming. Hope people like you give them the input they need to improve it.
lol read completely. they didn’t add farming. they’re discussing npc animations.
Farming fields need to be improved.
At the moment they are too “flat” and light in color.
As if the farmers would be just gently touching the field with their hoes.
If you have ever duck up soil, you’d know that it is moist and dark in color.
The fields in the game look like they have been untouched in direct sun light for multiple hours.
Make the field more rough in terrain and darker in color!
