[FEATURE REQUEST] Hardcore / Single Life Mode

Hi devs and community! Is it possible to add an option to start the New Game as Hardcore with a single life available in your walkthrough.

  • Saving is possible only by using Save and Exit option. It prevents the player from saving the game in multiple files, making it impossible to load the game in a previous state should things go wrong.

  • If your character dies, savegame is automatically being marked as unloadable (“DEAD”) or even deleted/wiped from the disk.

  • The game state is continously saved, there is no way to avoid consequences of your actions (other than playing with save-file).

This kinda eliminates the purpose of some existing in-game mechanics, like saviour shnapps and bathouses, but the raise in difficulty should compensate for that because currently the player has a temptation and legal opportunity to abuse save-load system without penalties.

The option would be nice but with a bit willpower you can do it yourself.

The permadeath feature is interesting, for me another one is only saving after sleeping 8+ hours every 24 hours (no potions, no save & quit options), but this could be select on game options to adapt that to any player.

Player could induce Henry to sleep with a “sleeping potion” but he need a “proper owned bed”, this in addition to permadeath is pretty “hardcore”, surrender (already implemented in game) is a great mechanic to avoid “death”, and prison is there too.

Yep. Currently literally there’s no penalty for your reckless actions.

IMO it should be a checkbox when you start New Game if you want to feel more responsibility for your deeds. Dark Souls or Diablo probably are a good examples.
