Feature suggestion: forced gamepad prompts (PC)

I’m playing the game on PC with a steam controller. It works really good! Being able to mix analog sticks with the precision of a mouse, adding gyro when pulling a bow and have mouse pointer+gamepad in inventory and other menus? Fuggedaboutit! So good.

Having said that, it does get annoying with the button prompts switching between keyboard prompts and gamepad prompts. Being able to force gamepad prompts would give the game a much slicker and cleaner look and maybe alleviate the moments of slight confusion over where the heck the binds for “Q” or “E” is.

I realise this is a small thing in the grand scheme of things, but it would be a nice thing for the 12 of us that use the Steam Controller in Kingdom Come: Deliverance.

PS: full SCAPI support would of course be MOST welcome

I would like to see this too…

Edit: I was able to fix this by going into big picture mode and changing the controller profile to the standard gampad template.

Wait… you mean the mixing promts? I guess it afterwards it shows just the xbox button layout?
…That’s great, I didn’t know about that option, gotta check that out. Thanks!

Yeah I’m sure they got a lot other more important things on their agenda.
I wonder if there’s an official place where one can make such a request.

I don’t really need SCAPI support, current situation would be fine if there wouldn’t be an issue with switching action sets and layers :frowning:

I noticed it doesn’t work right. I have action layers for lockpicking and sword grinding and it seems the only way to switch to them is by single button presses. And you can’t get back to the default action set :frowning:

The official config on steam is from a user called Martin Klima. I suspect he has a steamcontroller? Maybe if we could reach him somehow this could be fixed faster, idk.

I forwarded this topic to the guys who prepared the layouts

Along with the issues in switching action sets and layers?

Doesn’t that mean you can’t use mouse input?

Oooh nice, thank you!

Hi,
We are considering our options regarding switching between keyboard and controller prompts.
We’d like to have separate set of prompts for steam controller, but I can’t promise anything.

As to the switching between steam controller action sets.
We’ve just tested it and it works properly.

BUT there are some issues when the button you assign the switching to, has another set of different actions.
So for example if you’d assign the switching to “B” button you will experience some problems.

But when we tested it on right grip button it worked properly.
You of course need to set the switching to both your default set and the alternate set.

Cool, didn’t expect an official answer here

That’s icing on the cake but yeah would be nice.

For now I added action layers to my config no new action sets, since it’s more convenient imo.
What I did is apply action set on long press of the select button, which works.
But now in the action layer setting long press select button to remove action layer does not work. Also change to action set ‘default’ isn’t working for me.
Ideally I’d like a radial menu on one of the touchpads which brings up all the action layers to choose from. Again in a certain action layer the radial menu to go back to “default” action set. I could not manage to do that, I used same config as in many other games in which it worked without problems.

ExistentialEgg, a youtuber who tinkers with the steam controller a lot, also noticed oddities (see highlighted comment):

Hey add me to the list of Steam Controller users! So now there’s 13 of us :joy::sweat_smile:

I tried to configure action sets but I didnt fully understand how it works.
Right now I am playing with the “official” WH Configuration which works quite well plus gyro.
Of course lockpicking ist utterly impossible with a steam controller. Did anyone find a working configuration for lockpicking?

I’ve got a setup that works okay for me:
Right pad mouse input with low sensivity, no acceleration and high trackpad resistance.
Left pad with button ‘D’ on outer ring binding. It’s not ideal but I can pick easy locks with this setup pretty confident.

  • Lockpicking will get easier with the upcomming patch.

@trohn_javolta Could you please explain how you use it and how you configured it?

What is unclear? I just did that.

What confuses me is this: If you use “D” mapped to any controller button rather than using “left stick” there is no way to control the speed of the lock turning. Doesn’t that make lockpicking harder?

Yeah that’s true. Well it seems lockpicking in gerneral is easier with mouse and keyboard.
I tried left stick on left pad or thumbstick before but for me it was harder.
But there are many settings in the stick input, I myself am no expert here. Maybe you can play around with deadzones etc. and get a bette result.

Not sure I follow… I didn’t reassign any of the buttons, just used the template as it is… I did tweak the curve response on the left joystick. If want to use the mouse, it still works… I do switch to the mouse and keyboard for lock picking…

Edit: Thought I should clarify, I am using a Xbox One controller…
