I love what you do with the combat but does it not seem a little too formal like HEMA? it is based off HEMA sure but would people not be sometimes hacking at each other? maybe seeing a variance of technique quality would be cool!
define hack. if you mean the downward swinging motion, that’s not “informal”, that’s just a description of a motion of the sword.

theres your definition. by the use of that word i intend to portray a struggle and desperate fight to survive where some fighters may abandon any technique they had when adrenaline kicks in. they wildly swing at each other the sole aim of self preservation.
eg. a swordsman is in a fight with another knight of superior skill. swordsman 1 is being defeated so in a primal way he surges forward swinging his sword wildly at the second knight without thought for stamina conservation. (AKA he snapped)
well, they say you fight with their stamina, an interesting factor might be once their stamina gets low, their morale or psychological wellness may be affected and that will affect their animation and technique. or maybe if you’re wearing full plate armor with colors and you bear down on some enemy character who is a filthy peasant, he may come into a fight with low morale by default and fight the desperate fight and lose easily.

Oh. I hoped that this would be about judicial duels, not varying level of experience and skill in enemies.
I do admit that it would be more realistic that not everyone is experienced fighter and that you meet someone who due to inexperience and/or frustration resorts to using the sword as a bashing stick and completely forgets about defense. With the AI system they have in place (as described in one of the video updates) it may even not be entirely difficult for every NPC to have some skill variable set and depending on this variable they will be allowed to use only certain types of animations (moves) with a weapon.
