What happens if you hold the ESC key instead of just hitting it?
Is a controller connected to your computer?
If yes, one button should have the same function as the ESC key in the game. With XBox Controller it is the red “B” button. What happens if you push this button?

Ah yes save and quit exploit equals descriptions of ESC as save OR quit.
