Game breaking bug patch 1.3.1

So when I get to a certain part in the main quest when I need to pray at a church and wait to be approached this happens. No dialogue is initiated and the man just stares at me in a bugged, invincible state. Can’t save either so I assume the game sees me as stuck in a dialogue. This happened to me in this same quest when I needed to brawl a random guy and I just loaded an earlier save and aoided the brawling entirely. Anyone having this issue? Can anyone help? This is happening to me for the first time and I’ve played since patch 1.2

did you install any mods?

Only installed the unlimited saves mod

…and THIS folks, is why I’m still playing a 7 year old legacy classic called Skyrim.

This sort of post update rubbish doesn’t exist in Skyrim—because there were tons of workarounds for this sort of game breaking quests that destroyed your progress in the vanilla game.

aka “RESET AI” and a host of other console game debugging commands that shipped with the base game.

Which–as I’ve discovered to date–KCD is woefully lacking, given its relatively short list of console commands v Skyrim’s.

Well I had about 23 hours of KCD played in the previous patch and it worked fairly good. I did find about two bugged quests, a few bugged encounters and it was noticeably unoptimized but it was still very playable. With the unlimited save mods I had a blast playing it, but now 1.3.1 seemed to make this unplayable for me.

I also have the unlimited saves mod. And can verify this has nothing to do with the issues the OP posted. The game is still buggy post 1.3.1 (at least so it seems for PC gamers). The graphic texture popouts are still unresovled. And by the devs admission, the game is notoriously under optimized. If the game play enhancing features promised in the future 1.4 update can be taken seriously at this point.

Same problem here. For me it was the “King’s Silver” quest, but I encountered exactly the same issues :

-got to my first cinematic since I play on 1.31
-after the cinematic, the characters supposed to interact with me are just standing still, do not react and are invicibles
-the “save” in menu is grayed out

I’ve tried to load older saves, but it seems that the issue appears as soon as I launch any cinematic. I’m also using unlimited saves mod.

I’ve tried removing all mods, verifying game files, then load a veeeery old auto-save (fleeing from Skalitze in the beginning of the game), but same thing happens.

To be precise: after encountering a first cinematic (the one showing horse-riding Henry shot in the leg), most NPC become glitched and do not act, and the 2nd cinematic (approching Talmberg) doesn’t show up when it should, so I cannot enter Talmberg.

@pdaftw, any progress finding a workaround ?

I already suspected this was not a quest bug but rather an issue with the game’s mechanics themselves and you confirmed this. I think KCD post 1.3.1 patch has issues with cutscenes in general, for us at least. Haven’t tried anything else as I’m unsure of what to do exactly other than wait for the next patch… A rollback would likely solve this but I don’t think it can be done from what I gathered.

Even funnier : starting a new game, without any mod or anything, leads to the same issue right after the intro video. No dialogue with Mother starting, and impossible to interact with any NPC.

So the issue is not linked to old saves, saving mod or anything, but maybe with the game files being corrupted in a way or another. Since verifying the files with Steam didn’t work, next thing to test is uninstall and reinstall the whole thing. With my crappy connection, that means 1-2 days of download…

Found it! Finally I had forgotten a mod, “no NPC complaints”. I removed it and now it works fine. The issue is discussed on its nexus page:
