Getting the Necronomicon isn't as easy anymore

So i redid the restless spirit quest and this time the abbey has a very hard lock on one of the doors. Does this mean i have to wait until that monk quest to get it, or is there another way in?

weeeelllll …. there is another unfair way(cheating)……if you are on PC. use the cheat mod and set no lock picking and disable the minigame & using the invisible mode (zero conspicuness). It resets when you leave the game and return to it.
OR bump your skill to like 18-20 buy hook or by crook( cheat).

Just say’n

And eh… you can also train your lockpicking skill somewhat. Starting from 8, you should be able to pick very hard locks.

On my current 1.5 run I have level 10 and have come across very hard I can’t pick. That is why I suggested a much higher level
bandit camps, Neuhoff chest, armor’s upstairs chest and cabinet.
edit: clarification

You can climb the scaffolding. Up at the roof, you can jump into the herb garden.

Unless you want to spend time in jail you still need a high skill to unlock the doors ahead of time or after you get in that way or a super stealth and stay outa view and can get the abbots key.

Neuhoff armors chest? Where’s that? And yes I’m on 1.5 patch level 10 and come across chests I can’t lock pick without padfoot potion.

left out a comma, sry
Neuhoff AND the rattay armorers chest.
The Neuhoff chest is behind a locked door where the dead horses were, left one of the 2 doors. I t contains all the horse gear.
Rattay Armorer chest is in the back up the stairs ( locked door unless you have capons key) and to the right thru another door. Locked chest and Tall cabinet. The area is guard by a roving guard.

I’ve never found that one! Isn’t that the weaponsmith’s chest?

nope, The one I described is the armorers chest. BTW If at the door to the chest and turn left( facing the door) you will find the tailors sleeping quarters( I stole his neat green hat.)

Weapons merchants chest I believe in back of his shop. not sure to exactly where as his guard roams often.

So did the "Next to godliness quest too and that too now requires very hard lock picking, Lord capon’s key doesn’t work.

Lord Capon’s key worked ok for me. I went down the alley to the left of the rathaus all the way to the back of the building and up the stairs to a door that unlocks with they key. Then head right and down the stairs to the cellar.

my game must be bugged then cuz i took his key and tried to open the door but kept getting the hard lock message. I’ll try restarting that quest, maybe cuz i won the dice game.

That’s a shame. Worked ok for me. Short press on the X button to unlock rather than holding it down to lockpick (on the ps4). Hope the reload from the start of the quest sorts it out for you.

The key to the abbey can be found in the storage room behind the kitchen. On a shelf in some pretty dark corner.
With this key you can leave the abbey anytime you want to…

XBox One:
Patch 1.5

Restless Spirit quest shows the Necronomicon at the herbalist’s in Rattay.
It would seem it’s locked in the back room.
There is a back door to the shop in the alchemy room, behind the shop.
The herbalist does not offer it to trade, so I will have to steal it.
I wish WHS would not try to makes us all into thieves and allow us to get these items through other methods.

It’s only a game people might say, but I personally feel that these types of quests go against my ethics and also worry what effect it might have on younger minds. Life is all a game and the outcome is based on our collective moral ethics. If we don’t hold to them in all situations, how would this affect our society ?

And this is what makes this game…You play it based on your life pretty much. On your ethics. Nice if your given the option not to steal something’s tho

Didn’t know that last Playline and keep forgetting after. Thanks for the reminder for this time.

There is one route that only requires you to pick “Hard” locks, which is quite a reduction in required skill. You have to go through the building attached to the monastery. It’s a fairly direct route to the book, though you’ll probably need to pickpocket the key if your lockpicking skill is poor.
