Have to wait longer for console development?!

If I knew I was going to have to wait for the development of the consoles ports I would never have pre ordered this game!! It’s not going to be an easy process to get this game running well on consoles considering where it’s at right now(I know I know, it’s not optimized) and where the current consoles are at. Can guarantee it will cause delays. I hope the PC is the main focus considering that was the initial platform of development… The console ports better not hinder PC like a lot of other companies tend to do.

Agreed! Feel the same way!

As far as I know, the delay was not caused by consoles. Well, at least not entirely.

Even if the game was purely made for PC, it would not be ready to be released this summer.

“rumours suggest that a publisher/distributor wants all three main variations of the game – PC, PS4 and Xbox One – to be released at the same time. The issue is that the console version of the game isn’t nearly as finished as its PC counterpart, which has been the lead platform since its announcement. With that being said, to pull off a synchronised multi-platform launch, the developers may have to hold back until work is completed on the console variation” I can guarantee you the game would be done much earlier if we didn’t have to wait for the consoles. The game had an original plan of releasing late 2016. Then when they announced the console version, it was pushed back to mid 2017. The sad thing is they will never hit 60fps on current Gen consoles… I’ll be surprised if they can even hit a steady 30. PC should not get delayed because the Dev’s want more money from consoles. Kickstarter never said anything about a console release when we backed it!

“The idea was to release the game in the summer and then to follow up with the console versions,” the studio’s Tobias Stolz-Zwiling told the site.

“Right now we are still indie developers but we are in negotiations with publishers to, well, we need someone to bring the games into the shops, so we need a distributor, and he kind of wants us to synch it with the console versions. We are still in negotiations, we will see.

“Best case for you will be summer this year for the PC version and then with the follow-up for consoles"

I would’ve been fine with this.

Yes it did, consoles were planned from day one. This game is no where near release and console has nothing to do with it, if you don’t believe me go play the beta.

Again I will say. Kickstarter never said anything about a console release when I backed it. I would never have backed it if they mentioned consoles on their Kickstarter page. Not sure where you got your info, but you are seriously misinformed. I’ve been playing the beta since it came out. The game is much farther ahead then the beta shows, if you would watch the E3 gameplay you would see that. The game does need a lot more optimization and polish, I know that. But the fact is they are delaying so they can have a simultaneous release which is wrong to all the PC folk out there that have been waiting since day one. PC always gets the short end of the stick, I thought this DEV team would finally change that. There are countless articles out there with Quotes from people on the team saying the game will be delayed to ensure a simultaneous release between the 3 platforms.

There are countless articles out there saying “PC delayed because of consoles”. Either the PR department needs to get better at interviewing or it’s true?!

Well you should have read the campaign better, myself and many others have been around since day one and we have Known about consoles the entire time.

The game has never been a PC exclusive, had you been active in the forums since day one you would have seen myself and countless others reiterate this information.

PC was and still is the main focus, the delay only gives time to polish and perfect the PC version while they work on the console ports.

I was a forum moderator here until April this year (stepped down to pursue other interests) I have had many looks behind the curtain and many long talks with different members of the development team, This game was never going to make a release this year regardless of consoles.

Have you considered that this is a sub-build? What you saw at E3 may very well be a vertical slice of the new content they have been working on and is not complete with all the other content seen to date. A cleaner presentation is far easier to sell then a stuttering disaster.

Well I guess the PR for warhorse needs some work, because I’m not the only one that believes this…

http://www.pcgamer.com/kingdom-come-deliverance-may-be-delayed-on-pc-to-accommodate-consoles/

http://www.gamewatcher.com/news/2016-01-03-kingdom-come-deliverance-could-be-delayed-on-pc-due-to-consoles

Obviously they wouldn’t announce that the consoles are the cause of the delay because that would be like shooting themselves in the foot… you can’t really believe that the consoles aren’t partly at fault here. If the devs are kind, then I would like a refund most definitely, because I don’t like the amount of inconsistency these guys spew. I will buy the game if it ever releases and runs well. Again, I am far from the only one that feels this way.

Yeah if you read any other thread on this forum you would know I agree with this.

They aren’t, Publishers are. Even if WH was to make this a PC exclusive they would still wanna maximize their profits by having Physical copies available to those who A. backed the Physical specific tiers B. Prefer physical copies over digital. They cannot produce such physical copies and would need a Publisher regardless of consoles.

@DrFusselpulli can help you with a refund if you so wish (this only further damages development BTW).

Yeah there is allot of cry babies in this world who do not comprehend the development process.

Well ya, I never meant consoles are to blame(publishers is what I was meaning). I have no problems with it being released for consoles, I do have problems with it slowing development of the PC platform. The game will be fine if I get a refund, I’ve waited long enough and through countless delays(again, I don’t care about delays if they are for the right reasons like optimizations and polish). There are barely any updates on progress, for the most part us backers are kept in the dark. I don’t how you can call us cry babies when this game is development hell, but whatever it’s your opinion. Doesn’t bother me! Thank you for the referral for the refund.

I backed fairly early, but only for a Beta tier (you either went for a lower tier than that, didn’t actually back the kickstarter or have changed your purchase already since the Beta became available)…

When I backed there was a clear statement that development was for PC (win x64), PS4, XB1 and Linux and MacOS… as PC architecture is very similar to XB1, and porting to it and PS4 is so very much simpler than previous generations I doubt that development is materially affected by these three platforms. There are additional requirements for Linux and MacOS as they don’t use Direct X or many of the other middlewares that are used in the PC version, thus more work may be needed to port to them.

The development hurdles at the moment seem to be recasting the AI, the save/load functionality and some quest logic, plus developing missing elements (such as the recently discussed mounted combat, and polearms). This isn’t done, and consoles are not the cause. Early attempts didn’t work fast enough or reliably enough and more work was/is needed on them.

Console certification does marginally extend the timing between the release candidate and the publication date, but this may only reflect which code is called 1.00 rather than when the development stops prior to release (day one patches cover the development from the final release candidate to the ‘current’ best version, and they don’t appear from nowhere, they are worked on between the code freeze and the actual publication day).

Once the code overheads are dealt with (AI is notoriously slow at the moment) there should be sufficient performance (my hardware, far from the fastest, is mostly loafing at all detail levels - better optimisation of e.g. the AI routines should allow more of the potential hardware performance to be used).

I trust WH when they say there is a fair distance still to go, and that the development schedule is tight even for a 2017 release for PC. With good project planning I don’t see any significant reason to conclude that any significant time could be cut from that process by eliminating the console development process, and the minor difference in possible publication dates arising from certification procedures is overwhelmed by the advantage of a simultaneous release.

Xbox Scorpio is where it’s at! I wouldn’t mind waiting until Holiday 2017 to play KCD!!

I backed it when it was still on the countdown on Kickstarter because I knew PS4 would be available. How? I asked Warhorse Studios in a private message back then. Not only that, but my very first topic on the forum was an all out question if it was a 100% guaranteed that it would arrive on console (PS4 in my case). Look at the topic (date February 2014):

It’s stated in that topic by another user that on 17/02/2014 it was clear that it would come to both PS4 and XBOX One. It’s thanks to me and so many others that Warhorse Studios got the amount they eventually received to invest in KCD. Don’t get me wrong, many PC gamers have invested in this game, but without console it would have been way less. And not all people play only on PC, I never have and never will. It’s been Playstation since I was young and it will remain that way.

So I don’t see nothing wrong with delaying the game so everyone can enjoy it at the same time, it’s respect towards people in general and to those who invested in it. And as mentioned above it was clear that it was going to be on console.

Ya, Xbox Scorpio will actually be able to run it at 60fps 1080p. Finally a console that will be able to hit the steady 60fps mark. It is 2016, PC has been running games at 60 - 1080p since… ever. I can’t remember the last time I played at anything but! Don’t know how the devs will make this game run even at 30fps with the way the graphic fidelity is. This game looks beautiful in 1440p, the landscape is unreal and gsync makes the stuttering less obtrusive!

The KickStarter campaign pitched console versions from the very beginning; had there not been a console version, I would not have pledged the amount I did (early February 2014).

Yes, it has been known from the very beginning, that Kingdom Come: Deliverance would be released on consoles. I’m obviously playing the beta on PC but I cannot wait to play the game on my Xbox.

Furthermore, we want this game to be as polished as possible. If you’ve played the beta, y’all know that we’re working hard on fine-tuning the game and getting it ready for next year. The wait will be worth it.

Me, personaly, waiting for the PS4 version… but yesterday I’ve tried the beta on my PC. Three things:

  • my poor PC almost melted - running on the defaults with y2002 mainstream resolution (1024x768) - guess 2 years old GTX is tooooo ancient to run this
  • the alpha release was good piece of work but the beta is just unbelievable! Good work, guys!
  • WH should really mention that waiting for and buying the next year new hardware is a must to run this game…

Current midrange hardware should be fine to run the game once it has been optimised.

Budget hardware from several years ago may not cut it, but (as long as you don’t feel a desperate need for extremely high resolutions and frame rates) top end next gen hardware isn’t required.

I’m seeing usable framerates with an old 4 core non hyperthreading i5 2400, and a GTX 970 with very high settings at 1080p. Not as high as they should be once the optimisations are done as both GPU and CPU are not very highly utilised. It has been said this is because of the AI not yet being efficiently processed and threaded.

There is nearly no difference in performance between very low and very high graphics presets on my hardware, but image quality is dramatically different.
