Hello and 3rd person

As I see it there are two kinds of people demanding third person perspective.

  • People who like to admire the character they are creating. For this the vanity button is ideal solution.
  • People who get sick while playing games. I am afraid that third person is not a correct solution to this problem as this is IMHO not caused by first person perspective, but by incorrectly and insensitively implemented camera. I got sick from watching games few times and the factors were mostly the amount of control I had over camera. Most problems were if I wasnā€™t sitting at the controls. Or when the 3rd person camera moved some way I wasnā€™t expecting it. In first person when I was holding the controls and there was enough options to control mouse sensitivity and movement speed I usually donā€™t get sick (I have to be ill and than I can get sick just from seeing bright colours.)

@masozravapalma You left out those who see 3rd Person as an acceptable break from reality to compensate for the restricted FOV and lack of peripheral vision, and sense over what the body is doing, which a person WOULD have in real life but is missing in a computer game due to the inherent technological limitations (limited display size, and lack of tactile feedback/equilibrium).

Since the 1st person view is somehow crucial for the game design itself, I would suggest to do some kind of anti motion sickness mode where every unintended motion will be skipped or turned off. For example mounting a horse could be skipped by mere fade in fade out. I understand that 1st person view in the game canā€™t provide the level of perception as the real 1st person view, but on the other hand 3rd person view is again too big advantage compare to your real view. This is the work for game designers to design the game well enough so you wonā€™t notice the limitation of virtual 1st person view.

Hi everyone!

This game looks truly awesome, so awesome that I would like to work in Warhorse myself, that said Iā€™m only hopping for third person camera support.

Please, why donā€™t you add a stretch goal for it or something? That would be great, TES has it, DA has it, why not this game?

Games in only first person camera miss a lot imo, the animations, the clothes, the looks, everything! Please consider adding it, thanks.

Yeah but they could give us the chance to switch to 3rd person, when we, for example, just walk around.

I agree that we need a 3rd person view perspective camera. I do suffer from motion sickness when dealing with first person camera. I would suggest that the game has first person camera by default and provide an additional option to toggle between first and 3rd person camera in the option menu. That would satisfy both players that prefer the first person experience and also cater to players who could not due to various reasons. That would essentially opens up the game for many potential players.

Itā€™s amazing, Iā€™ve had motion-sickness in games for years but I donā€™t think Iā€™ve ever come across so many fellow sufferers at once haha.

I donā€™t get it as bad as some of the other people in here, as I can (and do) play first person games for hours on end and generally feel fine during and afterward with the only notable exceptions being Mirrorsā€™s Edge and the Portal games (not hard to see why lol). :puke: So there is no necessity for a third-person view for me at any rate, but I can whole-heartedly sympathise with everyone else here.

-e- It seems that there is no :puke: smiley. This is a right shame, it would have suited this topic wellā€¦

Thatā€™s trueā€¦I remember Portal was making me incredibly sick as well! Although I got no issues with Mirrorā€™s Edge, I actually love that game. On the other side the best games I ever played are first person (such as Thiefs/Deus Exā€™s/SystemShocks/Bioshocks/Dishonoredā€¦)
So if itā€™s easy to flawlessly implement 3rd person view and it does not hamper the goals the devs are going for, Iā€™m all for it. Otherwise Iā€™m fine with first person view only.

Here I sit, eating my lunch and can visually picture that little green emoticon. Niceā€¦ LOL. Now I need one too, hehehe! Does :dizzy: work?

Edit: that is apparently what you get with : dizzy :

Hrm, regardless of motion sickness I believe in order to keep things ā€˜realā€™ 1st person would be the most beneficial in terms of combat, immersion and the look of the world. Imagine making so many fine details and then no one seeing it because theyā€™re zoomed so far back!

If you just play Chivalry. In this game you have a Third person view and the melee combat donā€™t change a thing at all.

Considering the fact that modders are about to jump into the development of the 3rd person view mod just as soon as they get a chance (maybe even during the alfa or beta release already?), I think itā€™s kinda pointless to argue about its implementation inside the basic game. It will be available probably within days after the launch anyway.
Letā€™s just let Dan VĆ”vrat make his gameā€¦ the way its meant to be played.

I dont want to buy rhe game in hope of some modders to fix the 3rd person. The game should have since launch .
They showed they do have a working third person in all last videos , so let the. Just implement and make all happy as optional feature that would save the game for those who have motion sickness.
They have it , so implement it .

if they are artistically against it, then i think itā€™s their right not to include it. modding it in seems like a perfectly good, albeit, not ideal solution to the problem.

Modding it wonā€™t work very well I think, it has to be something they do for it to work well.

That said I donā€™t quite think it will work well with the combat system they have in place right now. There would be some changes they would have to make for it, however I most certainly would want to see my character outside of dialogue/cinematics.

Well yeah, but lots of them are about FOV, weird frame rate etcā€¦ I once played a biking or skying game that had such a bad FOV and due to constant back flipping, jumping and moves like that. That game made me physically ill. The fperson melee combat system wont be any different in terms of sickness than, the mirrors edge or chivalry. And I heard less complaints from them than about games with bad technicallities (like FOV).

There probably wont be anything like that. Games today are not so cheap to let you know in the last second before impact that something is wrong.

If there was third person it would feel like another free to play RPG off steam IMO. However nothing wrong with having the option to go third person but Iā€™m sure fed up with the floating gun cam.

Noooo. Hopefully there will be just 1st person view.

Iā€™m very happy with the decision to go 100% first person. In fact I wish the cutscenes and dialogue options were first person too.

That said I do understand the frustrations of those who prefer third person to first, but itā€™s not my preference. I donā€™t like it when in FPS games you flip into third person when youā€™re driving/riding a horse/taking cover etc. Iā€™m really glad to see Warhorse avoiding this approach.
