Hey little boys and girls. Stop telling the developers what to do!

In case you don’t like to stay up to date with Warhorse and their activities, but LOVES to post about what they expect from an INDIE video game company. Warhorse is already hitting a wall…

First off, They might not release the alpha update on time, and they are having trouble with the stretch goals as it is.

Second, They are working extremely hard and Daniel stated that for now there will be no more stretch goals.

recently, all i have been seeing on the forums are people who are posting their own imaginations of what this game should be and asking for it to be done. The way they write these posts and the extensive details of how exactly they want it done is coming off as a little childish.

It is coming off as childish because they believe if they can write their imagination into a post that it can somehow very easily be implemented. They are not taking in to account the HOURS if not WEEKS or MONTHS of coding, texturing, modeling, implementation, etc…

That is why i am writing this post. To please ask everyone to at least take into consideration what they are asking of the developers, i am not someone who is against good ideas, no, if you can make the game better, than why would i try to stop you? But think before you post, (i know i don’t do that time to time) But ask yourself these questions before posting.

How long would this take developers?
Can this be done by a modder?
Is this idea conflicting with the purpose of the game?

Asking of ideas to be implemented is our secondary duty. They know video games and they have their vision. It is our duty to support them, and HELP them, that is what forums are for, to HELP the developers by playing the alpha and posting our findings on here, and by staying tuned in on Warhorse’s activities and posts to best help them with this INDIE, player funded game. It is pretty ridiculous and downright selfish to believe the forums were made so you can state what you want as if what one person from thousands of backers is so important to Warhorse that they would do that.

Even if it was a good idea. This is not the TIME to be posting these posts. As i stated earlier, They are going through a rough patch right now, what they need on the forums is our support and information! NOT 13 year olds with fantasies they have been having for 5 minutes that must be done.

I understand that some of your arguments would say.

“That is what forums are for!”

No, forums are for reporting bugs, posting historically inaccuracies, questions on the already existing story and setting, questions on hardware, questions about the combat system, inaccuracies with the combat, bugs about the combat, questions about the game play, modding suggestions for modders, questions about modding, and the off-topic category is for off-topic things.

The modding category is the next part of my request.

It is there for a reason.
Modding tools will be supplied for a reason.
Steam implementation is there for a reason,
Warhorse has stated this, for a reason.
If you think it is so simple and easy and awesome if “this or that” was implemented in the game.

Do it yourself. Ask the Modding Community.

That is what the Modding category is for. hopefully you will realize when your 13 year old mind breaks after 2 minutes of strenuous concentration trying to add a pre-scripted, pre-animated, pre-modeled, object into to your “super sick mod”.

(if you are thirteen but do not fit in to this category. I apologize, you are a good person than and you are awesome for backing this game because you respect this game and its developers.)

tl;dr

Nah, I’m just screwing with you. Seriously though man, I don’t think you needed a dissertation to tell people to stop being dicks. Anyway, this is just what happens on dev forums when there hasn’t been news for a while. They descend into hives of scum and shitpostery. Gotta learn to ignore it.

They not being dicks, they just saying what they would like to see in the game, doesnt mean it will be implemented. the 3rd camera stretch goal was absurd to a lot of backers because they stated that this will be first person ONLY game and they were not planning on implementing 3rd person view, and the people gave their opinion on what the money could be better spend on.
No one is hating on Warhorse or KCD game. Its just brainstorming and ideas that some of the DEVS might include in the game or might not, just an IDEA, or brainstorming, we only humans, and they also run out of ideas.
We (backers) knew that it is a risk to back a game that was not even in early alpha stage, but everyone had faith in it and so we backed it. We all know that they work hard for this game, and it is their DREAM game like no other games, he said himself that he wanted to work on this sort of game thats why he left working for a big companies because he wasnt free to do as he is pleased to.
Everyone is entinteled to their own opinion and you cant say that the forum is only to use to report bugs, thats why there are different categories you can choose from when writing a post. Or tell people what to do because you dont like that, if you dont like it then dont read them.
And why do you assume that we are 13 year old backers? And even if some of us are, we are all gamers, why you hating? You seem like a the DICK by writing this post. Im 21, I have nothing against 10-15-20-60 year old backers, age is only age, if you behave like a weener then I will assume you are one and not hate on your age. How old are you? 20? I think you are a weener, but I dont hate on 20 year olds saying they are all the same.
Peace out, We all the same, players in the game.

I can understand your frustration but do you not see how much harm you are doing with this post?

I think you have mistaken Dan’s Candidness on the struggles of game development as being more dire of a situation then they themselves presented.

Also, most of the posts your refering to are from new forum members, most of whom aren’t backers. way to support the Devs mate by posting a personal hissy fit raging at the ill informed.

its childish that you couldn’t have been more constructive in your approach to mediate your message.

People get giddy and over zealous when imagining what they want from a game that they Invested in, this investment however small does entitle them to share whatever frivolous idea they wish to see implemented. this doesn’t mean the Devs need to bow to the whim of each and every backers expectations either.

So when people post in the wrong topic or create threads out of ignorance of whats going on with the project, lets not rage and freakout on them lets give them the appropriate info kindly and hope they educate themselves.

we want people to join in supporting War Horse, not be Offended by the their current backers.

I don’t understand what you want to tell us with this topic. First of all people are backers and paid for being part of the development process.
Secondly you can be sure, as a developer who wants to publish good work you love to get as many extremely detailed ideas as you can get. It is mostly common that people you design software for are extremely unprecise and often don’t even know what they want.
For Example: In the Alpha it was extremely strange to me that one can’t scroll out to third person view. But when I thought about it I got to the conclusion that it would have killed the immersion. And if I could get there that easily I would have automatically done it just to get a better view in some scenes. So that is a point where I saw that sometimes I am not really sure of what I want for myself.

So what people are doing is exactly what developers should like. There is no lack of ideas and feedback. Feedback is the most important source and the earlier you get it, the less work you have by discarding what you have already finished. But this has to be structured that the costs to read it will be reduced. That’s the only thing one should take care of in my opinion.

Any sane suggestions are more than welcome. Nuff said!

I would say that part of the job of a game developer is to assess what can and cannot be done in the specified timeframe.
Lots of people in the WH team already have long experience in the industry, so I don’t see why this would pose a huge risk to the development.

i wanted to ask smejki will there be cats? cause i kinda wanna get one in game as a pet for my shack.

That’s a question won’t answer for now. But i can for sure give you the information that you won’t have pets, just an optional sidekick doggie. Also you won’t own gameplay-wise babydoll house. At least not in Act I.

If there are cats and they are acting at least a little bit like real life cats than you will be able to call one of them your pet. It will just ignore you and won’t be bothered at all that you think its your pet.

Will you be able to pick up all of the object in the house? Like in the food storage carrots potatoes stuff like that or will it be only texture?

While I understand your frustration, OP, the dev team can handle their own workflow just fine. That’s what their little wall of cool ideas is for. Remember that? Time and time again, ideas have come up in the forums that the devs ultimately thought were at least worth looking at. It’s understandable that you may be annoyed because of the pushiness of certain people, and I understand that. But it’s best to not quench the fire of enthusiasm that keeps these ideas going, even if it can get a little out of hand.

Someone should give the OP a cookie. He seems to be in dire need of one…

Realistic then, excellent

@OP . So Enlighten me, you have written an entire wall of text to rant about people ranting??
I am sure there is much work going on that we “common folk” are not privy to.
I have faith in the team, and do like what I have paid for.
No bash intended, just an opinion.

I did not say they were dicks.
The 3rd camera stretch goal was brought up by the developers team which means it is excusable, it is them, asking us for help.

I did not say they were only for bugs… this is what i said.

This is what i said at the bottom of my post, but i guess you were too preoccupied finding fallacies in my post to read it thoroughly

and just to make sure you don’t put words in to my mouth again, my original post is unedited. which means it was their from the beginning.

All in all though, i appreciate your post. i should have used some other word instead of the number 13, what i simply meant by the number 13 is that their brains are not as developed as a fully mature adult. Which means their understanding of the effort put into video games is probably. Not even questioned.
That was what i meant by using the number 13. which is why i apologized for using the number 13 for 13 year old who reads this post and disagree. i believe we would not trust a minor behind the wheel if he had no idea about cars would we? But minors have very good imaginations, clearly some of the ideas from the youth are impressive and should be taken in to consideration always. which is why i am apologizing for that. sorry.

While I agree with your post for the most part, the section that I have quoted is a very big misconception that needs correcting, a lot of people make this mistake and it really needs clearing up.

This mistake is especially made with early access and early release game titles.

We are not investing in anything, we are supporting a company because we would like to see the end product that they have described to us, we will not get a return on our money or any gains to supporting this company or their product other than being able to play the finished product at the end of the development cycle, we are not entitled to anything other than the finished product that the company creates in their own vision.

People need to stop calling it an investment and thinking they are going to get something out of this, we are donating our money to back a project we would like to see come to fruition and by backing this company, we have a very good chance of seeing it happen but it is not an investment nor is it guaranteed, it is very important to understand the difference between investing, supporting/donating.

WHS don’t owe us anything but are using our money to help build the game they envisioned and described to us and that will be our reward, a copy of the game and any extra’s we paid for when we pledged our donation to them.

I am not hating on you or trying to argue but this really needs clearing up as a lot of people make this mistake and I think it is what helps to create arguments and a mentality of being entitled to things these days, especially with AAA/Indie early access and early release games.

Other than that, I agree with you completely!

Hew man, the devs want people to telll them what they want…

have i missed some sort of “GIB ME MUH FEATURES” lynch mob or something? because i have no idea where this is coming from

I am sorry but you sound like a 13 year old, whining and crying about what people have every right to write about and share. Get off your high horse buddy.
