Just watched an interesting video on this topic. (The topic being homosexuality in gaming, not specifically this game)
âa game portrayed a subject in a way that is not compatible with my beliefs, therefore video games are anti- ______.â
people who major in social sciences need to be forced to take at least a couple dozen credits worth of logic and reasoning related classes to counteract that poison theyâre getting fed.
If think this question is not realy a question.
In my position : if it serve the story, yes we need it.
In historical position : homosexuality always exist.
So we can heard from an NPC a rumor about a sodomite lord, priest, âŠ
But Is this realy important ?
And to clarify, no talking about homosexuality not making âanti-gayâ.
Stop comporting like victimsâŠ
Yes, there was an article where that is mentioned.
I hope it doesnât backfire though. Like:
Homosexual getting killed for "his sins"
THATS HOMOPHOBIC!! herpderp
Thereâs always people complaining. I donât even get why this has to be in the game (I know that nobody here was saying it HAS to be)? If you were homosexual at that time you would probably not run around town telling everybody. Well for some people nowadays Iâm not sure, as they love telling everybody and their cat cause theyâre soooooo proud of it, but at those times I bet it was quite different.
Anyway, if warhorse can integrate it in the story so it feels natural then I think itâs fine, but I really want to hear THEIR STORY.
The problem was already stated in the original article:
And they will never be happy. If you donât have a gay character in your game, you are homophobic, if you do have gay character in your game, you are homophobic, because they donât like the character. If women in your game look good, you are sexist, if they look bad, you are sexist, if you can fight with them, you are misogynistic, if you canât fight with them, you are using them as objects, if you donât have any women, because there is no correct way how to have them, you are misogynistic.
And itâs so true. You can never make it right for everyone.
Canât stress this enough though
Personally, I think if the goal is realism, it would be highly unlikely that anyone in the NPC game world, even IF LBGT, etc, would mention it to you as the son of a blacksmith. Considering the culture and religious edicts of the time, it would be quite difficult to present any NPC(s) in this fashion without incurring the need to have an entire subplot of whether or not the player will/wonât turn them in.
If this were Sparta, or ancient Rome, etc, it would be much easier as pederasty and LBGT society rather thrived, albeit under a bit of cultural subterfuge and euphemism.
Thereâs actually a great book on the matter called âSex In Historyâ by PhD Reay Tannahill. Good read; fascinating stuff and covers the spectrum (also, one of the best bibliographies on the matter of its time):

Im not readying the 69 commets, I will just say that, what does homosexuality means in a game? nothing omg If you like boobs or penis is up to you do what ever you like . If you want to be able to f**k with a man or a woman make a thread to suggest that addition, but just be happy dont hate.
Yes, you canât make anything right for everyone.
thatâs why you do your best to make the best possible game you can without trying to placate your audience. whether youâre a homophobe or a homophile itâs to easy to offend either, does that mean you should avoid sexuality as a whole? Of course not, sexuality/romance adds a lot to games (and no Iâm not referring to 5 second sex scenes). I really canât wait to see a triple A game that has a male protagonist who happens to be striving to protect/save/fight beside his male lover in a romantic tale of hardship and loss. Of course no one plays helpless and pathetically weak in need of protection as well as a female. So I donât expect to see Prince Pear (taking place of Princess Peace) or a male Zelda (awaiting rescue by link) even still I do think there are good stories just waiting to be tapped.
I think the same. At that time I doubt accept homosexuality. It was seen as a disease and until very recently managed to remove it from the list of diseases.
Excuse my English. I am using a translator.
why not? Do we have to address this? Canât a story be told without that? Wouldnât there be more interesting things you want to see about that time that donât make it into the game because of the amount of work, yet wanting homosexuality in the game? Iâm not ranting by the way, Iâm totally interested in everybodys opinion on this!
Itâs perfectly fine, Iâm not a native speaker myself.
Think of the best films or stories youâve seen. Or the best narrative driven games youâve played. In the content thereâs most likely to be a male falling for a female. Itâs love, itâs romance, itâs basic human desire and we love to see it play out. Thatâs why. Can there be good stories without love? Probably. theyâre rather rare though.
Yea but thatâs just because hollywood is shoving it up our every time. Thinking about Pearl Harbor⊠come on⊠Of course a movie seems better if it triggers strong emotions in you, but you can watch a movie making you sad and yet it might be the best thing youâve seen. It doesnât make a good movie cause itâs a love story, but because people get emotionally involved easier. Ever wondered why there are so many dating sites?
yup even muslim dating sites (which I have been assured is very much against islamic teachings) fun fact. Though I disagree itâs not hollywood shoving love stories in our face, because love stories have been part of human culture all across the world all across time. Though one non-traditional love story that I favor is âBand of Brothersâ it was a love story, but not romantic love. The bonds born from a shared experience.
Sure, but you canât deny itâs more now. Heck almost every movie needs a love story now.
And please, for the love of all thatâs cute and squishy, donât bring band of brothers into this⊠Thatâs not a love story.
The fact of the matter is, is that this is a realistic, hardcore, medieval RPG. As I saw in one of the first comments, if you want there to be gay people in it, make the mod, because the devs donât seem to be keen on adding them at all. I dont know if anyone else made this point, but i was alittle to lazy to read them all, so this is just my opinion.
yupâŠI think we can all agree youâre definitely lazy, which explains why you havenât even bothered to inform yourself before posting, while at the same time misrepresenting the developers to fit in your own point of view. which happens to be one they donât share.
I simply said that it doesnât seem that they are keen on it, i didnât state that the developers mentioned anything of the sort.
