Horse riding

Horse riding is a pain in the arse. Please tell me this is yet again due to the inexperience of Henry as opposed to game mechanics?

What’s the problem? I’ve had some minor issues, but nothing I haven’t had in other games with horses (eg Witcher 3).

Because most things in this game are done to reflect the level and proficiency of Henry. So I’m interested to know if the horse moving haphazardly reflects this also (cool if it does) or whether it’s just awful game control design?

This is an important distinction imo.

I’m not sure, but there is a horsemanship skill (you can get an easy +1 if you find some spurs). Mine is at 7 right now and my horse “seems” to go where I want. I’m not sure though, the skill description doesn’t mention it. I don’t quite remember what it was like a few hours ago when my skill was still low.

Absolutely!

The reason I ask every other game where you can ride a horse the controls are the same no matter what level you are, and unless I’m very much mistaken, no other game has an equestrian skill system. So it would make perfect sense if they made riding a pain in the arse at first. Just like you can’t read at the beginning. But I would love to know if this is deliberate or not.

I don’t see any issue with the horse except when trying to gallop and jump, takes an extra finger. Else you’ll have to elaborate. Also I have a tier 1 horse with lvl6 horsemanship and have no issues with my horse

Yeah, I can’t answer any more than I have. I haven’t really noticed any issues. At first (eg during the prologue), I had some dificulty with the horse which I don’t have now, but that could just be that I got used to it. Now the horse behaves about the same as Roach from The Witcher 3 for me, but I have no idea if its just that I got better at dealing with it or if Henry got better because the horsemanship skill has increased. Sorry that I can’t be of more help.

So, I just noticed that the bridle that you can buy and equip on your horse says in the description that it helps with control of your horse!
