Ok, new information! When you get to def or attack in clinch, smash F button (kick button in unarmed fight) 
Not def or attack buttons
Ok, so here you go in detailā¦
Armed combat:
Block button while close to the opponent initiated a clinch. Easiest way is to hold down the button and run into the opponent to lock weaponsā¦ then use one of the attack buttons to overpower them and attack.
Unarmed combat:
Using either attack button in combination with forward momentum while close, will initiate clinch/grapplingā¦
Light attack/jab + forward movement/close proximity = Knee to the face
Heavy attack/hook + forward movement/close proximity = Off balance and gut kick
I have done these without the forward movement if I just happened to be close enoughā¦
But if you want to take the initiative, move in on them with these button/key combos.

Btw, get good at this with a weapon and you will crush armed opponents used in combination with parrying, counterattack and combos.

Iāve found when you rush, hit the button that you would use to block to engage the clinch and strike your opponent. This is what has worked for me.
