All you do is keep trying to reload an older save until one works, then the current save you want to load should work. Once it does work, make sure you have a clean empty slot by deleting your very first save file at the bottom of the list and then re-save your game to the fresh slot. Delete the old corrupted save slot so it cant get written to again. If it happens again, just repeat the steps. This method works for me. It may take some time getting that save to load initially but it’s better than starting over. Just thought I’d share so this could help someone else.
don’t forget to turn off cloud updating.
I have read that also but the GOG version doesn’t have cloud updating, that’s only a function of the dreaded Steam platform. My solution should work with the Steam version also however since the game’s habit of overwriting files causes the problem.
look under the more tab ,configure game, override features, cloud saves, sync local saves with GoG Galaxy cloud tab.

Oh I see… i don’t use GOG Galaxy. If that’s GOG’s version of a Steam type client, then I’m glad it’s optional… unlike Steams client. Thanks for the info.
