How mature will the game be?

I wonder how mature will the game be ? Will it be as dark as the Witcher but without the fantasy (elves, dwarves etc…)

I hope that it will be darker, more realistic and won’t be afraid to approach adult oriented themes (no I’m not talking about pornography). I think that they shouldn’t be afraid to release a 18+ (or R) rated game because a lot of studies show that the main audience for PC Games are men between 30-45 years these days.

What do you think ? Should it be really gritty and mature or more light and teen friendly ?

A darker game Doesn’t mean it will automatically mean it will be a good game. Plenty of games and movies have tried that approach and failed, Like Man of Steel.

Phew, I’m not the main audience, I’m 25 years old. However I like really mature games. I play The Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us (new episode coming tomorrow, YAY) by Telltale Games because of the mature story, because of the emotions, the brutality which is not cut off. It is a difference if you see a fist hitting a face or if it just looks like it’s hitting the face. TWD also had a scene in its first episode of the second season which was so heartbreaking, so brutal and yet so honest. (This is the scene and don’t watch it if you don’t want to be spoilered.) Compared to the first season this single scene feels like playing the first season twice.

And this is what I want to see. Even if you have the opportunity to decide what you want to do, I would love to see the player helpless and maybe trying it over and over again and realizing that no matter how you decide, the game already decided. But the initial thought that the developer gave you a chance to make a difference which then doesn’t result in a difference no matter what you do is such a great emotional act. Some might think it’s a betrayal but for me, it’s what actually happens in your life. No matter how you think you decide, it doesn’t mean that your decision has an impact on what’s happening afterwards. To understand this feeling, you should play The Walking Dead.

I think it will be crucial to the game’s eventual success, both commercially and critically.
Now, TWD is a good example, so is, quite obviously GRRM saga and its TV adaption. It should be all about tough choices and harsh outcomes. No clearcut black and white, cliche resolutions. More like, the lesser evil, and such.

I think the game will better if it was more mature. Since this game is going to be very realistic, the game should contain some mature content.

It should be mature but not in a false way like those games which are made to look as mature and hard-boiled as possible and who’s target audience are teenagers who want to be as mature as possible…

So yes, of course there should be mature topics involved. But they should make sense in the narrative and world and not just be used for shocking or making “cool looking” stuff…

Well seeing as how it’s supposed to be a realistic and historically accurate game I’d assume that it’s going to be pretty mature. Now in the case of sexuality and nudity, who knows. But for violence and brutality there was plenty to go around at the time, wars, public executions and torture were very common.

I think if they are going for full realism, than age appropriate content would be needed, not age as in PG, but 14th 15th century language used as well as the type of things you would see every day. Does not need to be nude or swearing in every sentence but I do feel that instead of the classic TV series like Spartacus, Rome, Vikings, the use of swear words is increased for the viewing public. But this game will need to find the correct balance for realism.

I hope the rating won’t be an issue, and that the game will be as realistic as possible. Even Skyrim has an PG 18 were I come from, so I can’t imagine this being an issue at all.

I don’t know if we all mean the same with “maturity”…

Since no one has explicitly mentioned it yet, I will: rape. A touchy subject but nonetheless, a topic that needs to be broached. If we’re talking realism and adult-oriented themes, this is something that should be in the game. The question is, how will Warhorse approach this? Or, will they just avoid it completely?

I think to even keep their message true about it being realistic, this game has to be mature. Historically sex is everywhere. I am not saying anything like pornography like @SoHungover was touching on, but there would be constant nudity and the jokes between male NPC’s that they did the deed with another NPC. These are just some of the minor things, a brothel would be found within a city and plenty of other things like that. I am actually very curious to see how far the developers go.

I think the atmosphere will be similar to Gothic series but without magic etc.

Yep exactly, like @Jorge said. I hope they try to recreate the real atmosphere of medieval cities. The Gothic series didn’t really felt quite right… It’s suppose to be an harsh world but it was kind of lacking in cruelty caused by the social status difference in place during middle ages. Knights, Kings, count, dukes etc… we’re really above the peasants and could do anything they want to them without fear of reprisal.

I hope they follow that logic.

What things are common during social/politcal upheaval in any time period: murder, torture, rape, looting, kidnapping, assassination, poisoning, burning of entire towns and villages, welcome to the human race.

Tt smells like Hollywood. No king would let that happen in larger scale. One reason for all - every rulers need other people to pay taxes. Burned villages, murdered people = no taxes, no money, no power, no luxury life.

why need embellishment? draw inspiration directly from medieval literature and research.

Simply put, i dont think there is a way to build a realistic medieval rpg without a really mature approach.
