Phew, I’m not the main audience, I’m 25 years old. However I like really mature games. I play The Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us (new episode coming tomorrow, YAY) by Telltale Games because of the mature story, because of the emotions, the brutality which is not cut off. It is a difference if you see a fist hitting a face or if it just looks like it’s hitting the face. TWD also had a scene in its first episode of the second season which was so heartbreaking, so brutal and yet so honest. (This is the scene and don’t watch it if you don’t want to be spoilered.) Compared to the first season this single scene feels like playing the first season twice.
And this is what I want to see. Even if you have the opportunity to decide what you want to do, I would love to see the player helpless and maybe trying it over and over again and realizing that no matter how you decide, the game already decided. But the initial thought that the developer gave you a chance to make a difference which then doesn’t result in a difference no matter what you do is such a great emotional act. Some might think it’s a betrayal but for me, it’s what actually happens in your life. No matter how you think you decide, it doesn’t mean that your decision has an impact on what’s happening afterwards. To understand this feeling, you should play The Walking Dead.
