I dont use shields, only tried them out for a couple dozen battles with Bernard though. I am more of an offensive fighter relying on riposte, footwork, and master strikes instead of regular blocking for defense. With long swords I do tend to take leg shots a bit more for some reason but an arrow to the knee dosnt deter me from using the better weapon, ymmv.
