Hunting and alchemy is overbalanced

First of all I want to thanks all who kreate and support this great game. This is best thing that happens in RPG world since BG, Morrowind, Fallout and Gothik times. I like realism and true late medieval setting in this game. But there are some activities that broke game balance and realism.

  1. Hunting - when you kill one or pair of deer or boar, you can sell meet for about 1k groshens!!! I know that in mediewal meat of wild animals was expensive and was delicious for nobles, but soo expensive like a piece of good armour … unreal!!!
  2. Alchemy … cheap materials, priceless potions, most of effects far from realism … but thr process of potions creation is interesting
P.S. Cost of books in middle ages must be much higher …
Sorry for my English, not so op.

I made most of my money with hunting so yes I agree its too much meat that you get from the animals
I like the potions and their effect I think you cant make potions realistic in a game like this its a question between fun and realism
some books cost really much in the game but others dont… I havent thought about it… but since you make so much money you can buy basically anything, for a normal peasant the prices seem high still
In general I think it should be harder to get money

For a reason of realism much profitable hunting must be Cummans huntig. In real Medieval trophies of war was must priceless.

If they just made the meat heavier and less portions per animal, it’ll become a lot more balanced. As for alchemy, I’m sure they won’t get rid of the silly ones like night vision and all that at this point. Atleast the recipes cost dearly so that’s one good feature.

exaclty. i kill one board and get like 195 meat, with my gear it over encumbers me. Just lower the price for selling meat, or make it so cooking it doesnt take its stolen status off and people will make far less money on it. Granted, since meat is a delicacy and it is stolen so only certain people would buy it you should still get paid pretty well. Just probably make it even heavier/less portions and make it always stolen. You can only eat it or sell it to Millers. Even furs, people would not know you to be an established hunter/tanner so any meat or pelts you were selling them they would/should assume is poached; since it is supposed to be a serious crime.

actually, everyone knows Henry. I walk into a town and everyone is all “oh hey, Henry is back” so they know you arent a hunter or a tanner, so why would they buy that kind of stuff from you?

henry - "No this isnt poached, see…its cooked"
Butcher - “Oh well fuck me, I’ll take 195 of them!”

Maybe we could take a look at some of the xml files in the root folder and readjust some numbers

speaking of crazy encounters with traders I though if you botched a haggle they would not sell to you? The first time I asked for too much they stopped the convo and I was pissed. I tried again just for the hell of it and it worked…is this a bug or has that feature been removed? If it was removed, it should be toggle able…the idea can be scary but I kind of like it. Like at least for a week or so in game that NPC should not want to do business with such a cheapskate

oh probably, I play on xbox one so any mods I get won’t be for a while. Good news is when we get them, at least with Skyrim anyway, it was always the most popular ones…so no needing to weed through junk/bugged mods…but man do we wait.

Can you imagine how much more people would whine if they kept that trader feature? They probably saw it coming :joy: and it’s too bad console guys can’t mess around with the core files. Thanks to Sirius’ advice, I was able to get combat balanced a little without downloading any mods.

Oh I agree completely…however my time on these boards started after launch, I had no idea how mad people were. I really wasnt turned off by anything…didnt even hit any bugs, aside from weird facing NPCs during some convos, that I noticed until I did the patch 1.2. Now I’ve found a few quest related ones and some audio problems around flies and streams, and issues with the alchemy station. But still loving.

I hope that feature is still in the game, just not being used like the character creation tool. I would like a more hardcore mode eventually with that included. Would be soooo frustratingly fun, also maybe I wouldnt be rich if I had to wait a week every time I tried to work over a trader too hard lol.

Anyone else finds it strange that when you hunt down Roe Deer, you get “Roe Deer meat”, but when you cook it, it suddenly becomes a “cooked deer kidney” which is much more expensive than venison? I think that might be unintended.

Also, the whole mid to lategame balance is screwed at the moment. Not only money-wise, but combat-wise as well.

A) Getting money is far too easy and there is not much to spend it on. After 70 hours playtime, I am sitting on over 60 k Groschen and really don’t know what to do with it.

B) Hunting is too profitable, but so is “hunting” Cumans and bandits once you get a decent saddle with saddlebags, you can carry just so much and then sell it. Additionally, even if you are encumbered like 500000/500, you can just sit on your horse and ride to town without many problems (yes, not being able to fast travel is a bit of a hassle, but not that much inconvenient in the end), the horse should be only walking at best in this scenario.

C) Heavy plate armor should be FAR more difficult to obtain and have really steep requirements for wearing it. Yes, the amount you can carry limits you a little, but again, when you get a decent horse and a saddle with saddlebags, you have no problems carrying around several sets of armor for every occasion. It also doesn’t seem right that you can pretty much wear some of the best armor just after prologue, if you happen to “stumble upon it” - Hello, Wayfaring Knight! The best armor should have ridiculous requirements like 17 Strength or something like that.

D) Combat is just so damn easy in the vanilla game mid to late game, you just kill anyone and everyone in one or two hits and they do no damage to you at all, you are like a medieval tank.

At least some enemies should scale with you skill and stat-wise, so that combat remains challenging even later in the game. It took me to combine two mods: the “Immersive Balance” and " “Harder enemies - Enemy Health and Stamina Overhaul” with massively increased health to enemies and a nerf to my stamina AND a nerf to the best swords in the game to even achieve SOMETIMES challenging combat scenarios (the bad side effect is that hunting is bloody ridiculous with that, a hare takes 7 Better Hunting Arrows).

E) I don’t see much of a problem in Alchemy as it takes a lot of time and patience to brew a significant number of potions. If anything, herbalism is absolutely OP as I went on to collect tons of herbs even in the tutorial in Skalitz and with the perk “Leg Day” was leaving the tutorial with significantly leveled-up both strength and herbalism, making the game a walk in the park for the most part.

You can make your own hardcore mode like I am trying now. Henry 2.0 won’t steal, rob corpses or sneak kill. I also made him a speech based character and I won’t be activating any strength or attack based perks. Just combos. It’s going well so far, without any illegal activity, it’s a lot more challenging. have to depend largely on the shit paying side quests, dice, gathering and some contests. It’s really fun so far. I can’t even purchase good weapons and armor this way so it’ll balance everything out

And main hero’s name is realy not Henry. In Chzech and Russian version he is Jindrich. Don know why in English and Deutch appears Henry)

Yea, thats kind of what I’m doing now. I started off trying to be more RP, for instance I did not dig the body for Peshek at first because I didnt thin a kid who just went through what henry went through would immediately go grave robbing…but eventually I succumbed. Now I’m rich and powerful, well rich enough anyway. I’m currently moving off my heavy armor and mace and shield and selling stuff but not as avidly as I was. Do a few bandit raids and training with Cpt Bernard and you’re way too good off.

well, what does Jindrich translate to? if it doesnt translate well or at all they probably have a couple names for play sake

Not getting succumbed is the hard part :joy:

its so tempting. Usually when I’m about to be done playing I’ll sleep quick to catch a save and then just murder until I’m dead or pay the guards off, I repeat until I’m satisfied and quit. Reload with no problems and ready to play again without killing randoms. It is really easy to avoid guards in this game. I remember in Morrowind I messed up bad and before too long no matter what town I went to my bounty was too high and I was kill on sight, no negotiation…or at least that’s how I remember it going, I was young and it was a long time ago lol. I havnt had that experience in this game yet.

I’m actually thinking about making a mod to rebalance hunting rewards, like meat and hide amounts, weight and values.

Either to match my tastes, rebalance hunt gameplay and (hopefully) achieve some more realism.

Right now it’s silly to retreive 30 hare pieces from one rabbit, each worthing 5-7 groschen… Selling a rabbit for 150-200 groschens is unrealistic beyond reason… :stuck_out_tongue:

I would advise not focusing too much on price, though maybe a little, and really focus on keeping it stolen so you can only sell it to certain people. IF you can, then also make it so once you are the huntsman of Talmberg all game, or game from talmberg, is never stolen. Would make it more realistic in the sense that meat should fetch a good price but you’re not a hunter. Also, maybe limit how much the traders will buy, regardless of groschen. Meat spoils in a few days, there is no way they would buy 100s of meat from you, to sell to a village of like 30-40 people were maybe 5 of them could even afford the meat.
