I know you have probably already heard this several times, but please hear me out. I am having trouble with Runt despite having plate armor. Any suggestions?

I have herod’s sword, a full suit of plate armor along with chain mail, and a Gambeson. Additionally I have a shield and a mace for back-up. Neither one of these two weapons seems to do the job. I had more success with the mace, but even then I just can’t seem to win.

For starters I enter the fight at half health because despite wearing some of the best armor money can buy, people can still harm me behind my armor with swords somehow. Also he blocks pretty much all of my strikes. The thing that pisses me off the most is when he hits me his strikes get through my armor but mine glance off his armor when I use the long sword. Even when I land a hit on his head it only scars him a bit and he hardly flinches. He also seems to have a lot of advanced combos and a lot of stamina no matter how many times I block he always eventually gets past my guard even with perfect block using shield and mace. I gave shield and mace a try. I had better success, but none of my blows even with the mace actually seemed to harm him much behind his armor only staggering him a bit. Even two direct hits to the top of the head did not do the job. However I did manage to land more hits using the mace than with the sword.

I don’t have a bow because that is simply not my play style so what do I do? I prepared so much for this fight only to find that plate armor doesn’t protect you for shit.

Now I would understand his sword piercing my armor if he was doing a half sword combo, or a murder stroke but it still shouldn’t do as much as it does. He literally just chops through my armor and it only protects me from his first or second strike out of his 5. It is just plain unrealistic. This game claims to be realistic but whilst some features certainly are even in the combat, armor definitely needs a rework because this is what should happen if you hit plate armor with a sword straight on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5hlIUrd7d1Q . I understand this would make swords less viable, but the thing is they are not supposed to be viable weapons. They are secondary weapons or weapons for self defense. The lance, halberd, poleaxe, or glave should be your primary weapon if this game is historically accurate.

Well by not having a bow i think you’re missing out on some gameplay. But that’s up to you if it’s not your play style.

Anyway my advice is if you can’t get past runt. You may consider going back to an earlier save and practicing more. Level up some skills first.

I know the feeling. My first playthrough was Knightly, meaning I had to wear only the best plate, carry the best weapon for slashing, and be charismatic as fuck.

Runt however is a pain in the fucking ass to fight.

As you’ve clearly seen, your health will never go back up at the start of the Runt fight. That’s where it starts being terrible. As a Knight, I CANNOT avoid combat, and must always fight. This playstyle destroyed my armour points and hit points, making the Runt fight a bitch to do. And as I grinded early solely on swords, I was master classed longed before Prizbyslavitz, so I was basically untouchable unless I was attacked by multiple AI.

Runt still slaughtered me despite that.

So being Knightly, I can’t flee or turn my back on any foe (Please note I am trying to tell you to avoid my playstyle, or else you will be in for a bad time) I had to eventually (read: died 29 times. I counted) before I had to break the Knightly role and ran around like a bitch. Runt chased me and I got cheap shots in on his head. It took a total of two minutes being a coward, but eventually I killed him.

So the best advice? Restart at the beginning of the battle, avoid central combat and be a dishonourable cunt and attack AI from the back when they’re engaged with someone else. This’ll save your armour and hit points until you reach Runt.

Runt was a very easy fight for me, i had plate, and my sword skill was 14. I’d just let him hit you, and reposite.

Ok so try to wait till he attacks and wait for the green block symbol. When u succesfully block strike for the head there is no armor. Watch stamina also. Low stamina attacks wont do much.

If you wanna win without start this mission again try to poison your blade. In some chests in the cuman part of the camp you can find some. Not knightly but effective…

you need to pick right troop level via your feedback to Radzig. If you pick 2nd highest estimate of enemy numbers, you should have enough ally NPCs to take care of the Cuman and bandits. That should allow you to stand back some. Help double team an enemy NPC if you need/want to engage the enemy.

When you meet Runt, avoid direct hits. If you aren’t good with (2-handed) longsword blocks and counters, use a shield. I like ceremonial mace with shield. Stab/jab with mace is stronger than you might think. [Play an earlier save and get training (sparring with wooden sword/mace) with Bernard]

Don’t go aggro and exhaust stamina. Runt is the enemy NPC that will smoke you if he hits you and you have no stamina. No shame in moving backwards in circle and blocking.

Achilles had his heel; Runt has his head. Go for it. Apply rag doll, bane or poison to spice it up

After given the opportunity to train with Bernhard I did nothing else except that for one ingame week

I mean if you already know this game is hard as hell and you will HAVE to go against a “mountain of man” why not training the shit out of the combat arena?
Result was, I killed runt with one riposte with the heavy warhammer (thrust to the neck)
Why even bother wearing a helmet or aventail if you can have swag instead?

I just stabbed him in the face and he dropped like a rock.

Do you have enough agility to fully use your sword? with not enough agility, a smaller longsword would be better for you. What’s your sword skill?

Try using moves that aim for the head.
He doesn’t wear any head protection, so one or two hits should destroy him.

a little bit OffTopic but it seems the game has a kind of JKJA fighting style.
Your opponents have sometimes better defense skills and sometimes offense skill.

Can’t offer any advice. I expected to get my arse kicked because I was shit at fighting at that stage. Took a few wild swings, must have thumped him on the head at some point. Next moment, cut scene, and I’m smacking his head against the floor.

Perhaps, try using an axe? ALthough it’s a bit strange, because every time you get cuts scenes, Henry magically produces a sword in his hand. And they promised no magic in this game? lol

JKJA?

What’s that?

Jedi Knight Jedi Academy

Runt is actually difficult? I literally one shotted him without wearing my best armor or weapon quite frankly was highly disappointed on how easily game is mostly but as for advice kill bandits humans sell their loot buy good armor and weapon train strength learn master strike etc easy as cake

Don’t forget the role of stamina. Unless you are OP after hours in the arena, you must drain his stamina before any hope of damaging his health. A few scattered strikes here and there won’t do it if he has the time to resplenish his stamina in between.

Use combos to force him to block multiple times and thus drain his stamina, then another 1or 2 hits will damage him a lot. You can also dodge and counter attack him after he has launched a chain strike. He should also be low on stamina then.

I waited until I had about 500 kills before I reported to Radzig and triggered the Bernard training… silly in hindsight but just wanted to explore and get good loot (armor/weapons), then realized might be time to do nest of vipers

I won the fight with a single blow to his head with my mace

I bet you still got the sword cutscenes though?
