I was excited to realize Daniel Vávra from Mafia 1

When I first saw the game’s trailer few weeks ago and accidentally saw Daniel Vávra’s name in the closing, my eyes lit up and almost screamed - I recognized him from Mafia 1, my all-time favorite game by a mile, and knew it was going to be an immersive, cinematic game. I almost shared a Facebook post immediately to recommend the game, mentioning Daniel and Mafia 1 etc, sharing the trailer, but decided to watch some gameplay videos too, and that’s when the downhill started - first saw people’s frustrations with random bugs, then found forums with people unable to progress and core game mechanics being really twisted, then found out it was Kickstarter-funded, many years ago, postponed twice, and the performance issues with AMD cards not optimized for (r_BatchType 1 workaround from a user, not a dev), GTX 1060 users getting nice frame rates but a more powerful Vega falls below it, and that a DLC is already in the works while major game breaking bugs are not prioritized, 1.2.5 supposedly introduces a major bug. Etc etc, all of it really, really disappointed me (especially as a Vega user and high expectations from Mafia 1) having read hours on end and made me not want to buy it whatsoever, and just made me feel sorry for the Kickstarter supporters especially, but anyone who purchased this full price… I never heard of Warhorse but I suppose their next game will take 5 years as well. Since Mafia 1 I had immense respect for talented Czech people and couldn’t wait to see another great game from the country. I just had to let it out after my initial OMG moment and spending the whole day discovering the game, reading about it, to the next day completely giving up even thinking about trying it.

Do try it, it’s got a fair bit of jank right now but it’s not nearly as bad as some people would have you believe, and on PC at least we’ve had a patch every couple of days since release, I think that at this rate it should be running pretty well for most people in a few weeks at most.

Pro tip for PC users - even on a 1080ti, ultra settings and maxed sliders will tank your system. Check out https://www.gamingscan.com/best-settings-for-kingdom-come-deliverance/

I swallowed my pride on having a beast of a rig and tried the above advice and now I’m getting mostly solid 60 fps, and the game still looks pretty nice. There’s still a micro stutter, some frame drops plus I suspect a memory leak but these things will get fixed, nobody puts as much effort into a passion project like KCD and then leaves it in a state that doesn’t do it justice

Buy it when its cheaper in its current state you might regret it. The bugs are too many

Thanks, I’ll check out that link!
I’d try it if one could at least progress through the game. Seeing that many advise not to update to 1.2.5 for the game-breaking bug, is quite scary regarding what can be expected from future patches (might take months)

as a huge fan of Mafia I, I had the same feeling when I saw Vavra is making a new game, although that was back in 2011 or 12. Whatever you read on the forums is more/less true. There are bugs but I am 40 hours into the game and still have to encounter a game breaking bug. The setting, the story, the immersion is like Mafia on steroids and, for me, heavily overshadow the bugs.

WH was extremely fair during the development and I have no doubt they will fix the bugs and provide more content for the game.

If you don’t want to risk it now due to bugs, come back later and buy the game. It is easily on par and above Mafia I and you will have a blast.

No doubt it looks immersive and the vast world & the attention to details amazes me - just seeing to roads alone hand-made to be so realistic is mind blowing. I saw some NPC interactions being dull like in most games out there, same generic questions that repeat for each NPC that does not add to anything. But the main storyline looks really good. If the game is more stable I will get back to it for sure. Also, as it is an independent dev team make me want to support them
