I'm just too bad at swordfighting, need help!

I try to use all the techniques you learn in the swordfighting tutorial missions but so far I wasn’t able to win a single swordfight.

  • I don’t stand still
  • I’m striking where the sword not is.
  • Trying to chain multiple Strikes and Stabs.
  • I’m getting that perfect block fairly often.
  • Trying to play planful and defensive.
  • Using feint from time to time.

Despite all that, I lose any swordfight against any random bandit in the woods.
Even after I was sneaking up on a bandit, disarming him and parting him of all his armor while he was unconcious he almost beat me to death with his fists while my sword attacks didn’t seem to have much effect on his purple health bar.

My strength is about 4 and my agility is about 2.

What am I doing wrong?
Do I have to play more button-mashing style?
Do I have to improve my stats before I get into the sword fighting business?

Just keep practicing.

Strength = more damage and less use of stamina
Agility = faster dodging
Vitality = more/faster stamina

Mine are
8(+2)
8
8
Respectively,

Plus I have really superior Armor and weapons as well. Still I struggle at times when it’s myself vs 2 heavily armed guards or bandits.

Just keep practicing and keep fighting. Continue trying to slash and stab and faking out the enemy. Blocking and dodging, but make sure you keep a fair distance between yourselves. I don’t button mash at all. Patience is important too, sometimes it’s wise to let your opponent attempt to strike you and use their off-balance to counter!

If you’re in a 1v1 then feel free to practice safely as I do.

Armor is really important, I barely take any damage anymore unless they stagger me and get insane combos!

You’ll get there young knight!

Here’s another factor you should look into. How is the quality of your weapons and armor? You won’t do much with blunt weapons and dented armor.

Yes, I carry Armor, blacksmith, and tailor kits on my horse to be sure to repair after a battle. Good point I forgot to add!

Take a look at what stats you need to be effective with a weapon (with Q in inventory). It’s very possible you do not have good enough stats for the weapon.

That said even after you get to a reasonable stat levels it still won’t be easy. You just have to try to improve your stats as much as possible and then train swordfighting.
Practice makes perfect!

I find even still Henry is capable of using the weapon, depending on how powerful the weapon is I find it may well be worth to use imo. My sword is too strong for Henry but I still use it fine.

When I tried using min 11 STR weapon with 10 STR, I felt like it spent stamina like a truck while being slower and more sluggish than the weapon I used before even tho stat wise it was clear and obvious which one to take.

Yes, technically you can use it just fine, but it makes it harder IMO.

There are stats you can unlock where you spend less stamina and generate it faster. I do fine for having short 2 agility for my sword.
Like I said, I’m capable of killing two heavily armed bandits or guards. Probably even 3. There’s Henry’s skill and your own personal skill.

Just a little advice. If you manage to bring down a bandit this way stand up when ist is save draw your weapon and look at him than there should be the option to instand kill him.

Mercy Kill

With all that said… @zeltchoron how did you level up swordfighting skill? Did you fight with those alongside road? Or just kept fighting vs bandits?

Hm not sure if this is correct. Maybe better wake him up and ask for his point of view.

I don’t fight the innocent. I’ve leveled mine up to 8 by fighting bandits and boars. I don’t Attack unarmed peasants traveling the road.

Killed 42 bandits so far. A more heavily armoured bandit requires more damage thus more increase to your swordsmanship.

You can pay someone to train you.

Or you can do that. I have the money for it but haven’t wasted my coin on it yet. Too busy fighting bandits lol.

If anyone is interested - you can pay for sword training in Talmberg.

I did not mean the innocent, I meant the knights that are fighting for “glory” or other stuff… They stop me while traveling regularly.

I’ve only met bandits thus far. Perhaps it’s becaude I haven’t complete much storyline at all. I’ve encountered once a battle amongst 2 teams of knights - I intervened and it counted as a crime (won’t do that again!)

Train with the captain. As you level up he’ll be available to teach you chain attacks and master strikes, as well as teaching you to do this with different weapons.
Henry doesn’t know these things untill you actually learn these skills in-game.

Hint: Don’t practice free-fighting with sharp weapons with hm untill you are high-level. He will obliterate you and your armour.

500 groshen later I figured out this useful hint!

Hello mater, try going to Bernanrd and getting more lessons. I’m having no difficulties, but sometimes fights take quite long. I had a duel with the Wayfarer knight that took me about 9 minutes.
