Importance of high visual quality

Hi Warhorse,

I just watched your very interesting weapon forging video. For anyone who’s interested in more of such videos, you gotta have a look at the channel AWE me and their MAN AT ARMS series. They’re recreating weapons from movies and games manually. However it’s not that traditional craftsmanship that you’ve seen in the update but still interesting and entertaining.

Now to the actual topic: Since I’ve seen this video and watching it in HD, I was wondering which anti-aliasing features will be available in the game. Why am I wondering: If you look at how the swords are made, you need to have a good eye on uneven edges and get a feeling, how much power you need to get an even and therefore sharp blade. If you have pixelated edges it’s hard to tell how even or uneven your sword is. Our eyes don’t see pixels in the real world so the visuals need to be as sharp as the sword. I don’t know what the engine is capable of and if it’s possible for Warhorse Studios to tune this engine in some way or another. I’m also excited about this weapon sharpening mini-game / feature and what kind of impact it has, but therefore I need to wait until I get my hands on it.

Even though I agree the graphics must be sharp and all, I don’t think it’s relevant. We are still gamers. Not blacksmith. Making a game on which you must have a blacksmith eye to forge a good weapon would be realistic but very painful for most players.
So yes for the good graphics, no for using them for blacksmithing.

Man at arms is awesome though! I love the weapons they make! (Even though the Halo’s sword sounded irrelevant^^)

I agree with @Tangae, I would like to see some beautiful polished visuals with high AA but not necessarily for the same reasons you are after.
