I’ve been doing this quest at the Monastery for Johanka and as soon as you help 3 patients you get a cut scene where Sebastion comes in acting like a pompous dick. There’s a speech check right after a short cut scene and I have a speech character with the perk to see other’s speech stats so I know whether or not I will pass. I originally got to this point with 8 speech skill, almost 9, so I reloaded and leveled my speech up so that drinking a Bard’s Potion would make us equal. It worked when I talked to him about supplies, so I went and triggered the cut scene again and picked the speech check response but failed. Then, apparently, failing this speech check MAKES YOU LOSE THE GAME so I lost over an hour of progress of me running around trying to find people to talk to to increase my speech skill 33% (because the door to the room I bought at the Inn in the nearby city is bugged and I can’t open it and I was confident that I would pass the speech check like I literally just did and didn’t think wasting a manual save was needed because I didn’t expect that FAILING A SPEECH CHECK FOR A SIDE QUEST WOULD MAKE THE GAME END) . Fine, okay, maybe I needed to have a higher speech, even though equal speech worked on him literally 30 seconds ago. So I put this quest on hold, run around, do other quests, and try to level my speech to 9. I do that, come back, AND NOW HIS SPEECH IS MAGICALLY 1 HIGHER THAN BEFORE. So I’m back at square 1. Well, fuck you Sebastian, I just reached level 8 and picked the perk for +2 speech (which I didn’t really want to pick, because I didn’t want to lose 2 strength but fuck it, fuck this prick I want to finish this quest). So I I pass the first skill check asking about supplies easily and go trigger the cut scene. I still have +2 speech over his, how could I fail? Well, apparently it doesn’t fucking matter because I still fucking failed. I can only assume this speech check is IMPOSSIBLE, so WHY GIVE IT THE ILLUSION OF BEING A SPEECH CHECK? When this instance is the only instance in the game I’ve played 30+ hours of so far where HAVING A HIGHER SPEECH DOESN’T GUARANTEE SUCCESS? How is anyone supposed to figure this out without having a pointless and abrupt GAME OVER at least once? Maybe you played the game 169 hours and all skills are maxed, or you cheated and you’re a level 999 God, but you try and help out this fucking nurse and this pompous piece of shit comes in, and the game inexplicably THROWS AWAY ALL PREVIOUS EXPECTATIONS OF GAME MECHANICS just to fuck you over and force you to load your most recent save. HOW IS THIS FAIR? HOW IS THIS FUN? WHO FUCKING MADE THIS QUEST??? WTF. I really enjoy the game, performance issues aside, bugs aside, slightly clunky game mechanics and balancing aside, I’ve really enjoyed the past 34 hours of Kingdom Come Deliverance EXCEPT FOR THIS STUPID FUCKING QUEST AND ITS IMPOSSIBLE SPEECH CHECK. WHY IS THIS IN THE GAME? Someone tell me this is a fucking bug, because if this is intentional I’m going to be fucking pissed.
I managed to pass the speech check. You’re probably getting s game over because you’re still under the service of the Bailiff from Rattay, whenever you go to jail while under his service it’s a game over. For a very logical reason, you’re proving yourself that you can do your duties as a squire, etc… So I would recommend to finish doing that part of the main quest until you’re the service of Hanush( I think that’s his name) and after that you’re free to do whatever the heck you like, including finishing that quest easily.
