Invisible walls in general

The intention for the invisible wall is clear… to slowdown the player and prevent from riding through the forest in a direct way. To use more the “normal” paths… with random events. And to border the World map!!!

BUT the way it´s now implemented it is a immersion breaker! This little forest between Samopesh and Merhojed is a really bad example for this new system.
It is okay if you can´t ride through the forest everywhere. But it´s quite unrealistic if you can´t walk slow through the dense-graded woods and bushes.

Why don´t use a system like this:
When comming to dark green bushes/dense woods, you can´t ride through, but you can go slow through with loosing stamina (like carring a body). This system would prevent from stacking in the forest(like now!) but would slowdown the player enough.

This invisible walls (inside!!) the world map are a bad design decision.

Pretty much agree. You can always walk through dense forest, its just uncoformtable. Btw would be nice to increase loudiness when you try get through such young and small vegetation. Most people can be heard on very long distances. Depends on sounds from close and distant areas, but during nighttime such people can be heard approx kilometer away…

Yeah, the invisible walls really kill immersion for me too. I like your idea too.

Are we sure its “invisible walls” or just an issue with occlusion blocks?

In alpha 0.1 you had the ability to jump on to everything buildings ledges rocks stumps logs Et Cetera, Medieval Parkour was a thing for a bit.

Now it seems anything you jump on you slide off zero ability to land on and continue moving over.

Many of the areas in the forest where I have gotten stuck you can jump your way out, which to me is a sign of an issue with low occlusion blocks and the in ability to land on them or step onto them. Its like a stair case but Henry cannot take the first step.

Hello @McWonderBeast

Yes I´m sure because these walls are new (now in the beta).
For example around the little forrest between Samopesh and Merhojed (with the little creek). You can only enter the forrest on some paths and the creek itself.

There is no way to pass this wall. I tried to run, jump, crouch… with horse ect.

Maybe you have another idea…?

Have you tried jumping these areas at full sprint on your Horse?

I have noticed almost all of the creeks are near impossible to exit if you manage to make it into them.

Either way it could be full walls or short occlusion blocks or an issue with the physics of the player model itself.

It just would not make since to have large barriers within the playable area, that’s why when I find these “walls” I look to see whats in the area and more often then not these areas are accompanied by logs, rocks, or small ledges/ridges in the terrain have yet to find one on flat ground.

@DrFusselpulli has this been brought to the attention of the team?

I am also not a fan of those non-penetrable forest borders forcing the player to find the proper path to the spot. But what bothered me the most was the real invisible walls. I found one at that Cuman forest camp which was already present in alpha version. There is a cliff overhanging that camp. I wanted to shoot them with bow from up there, but there is this invisible wall preventing me to reach the edge of the cliff. But WHY? This was the obvious strategy to deal with them!

This reminded me another issue I had when sneaking around that camp with my long-bow: It is not possible to go to stealth (with ‘C’ button) with the bow in my hands. OK, This is probably not possible even in reality with the long bow. BUT using keyboard, moving speed just feels too fast and awkward when I tried to move stealthy around the camp that night.
Default speed is fine for the most part. But apart from sprinting, I suggest giving keyboard users the option to walk slower for those situations.

You can go from ‘trot’ to ‘walk’ using Caps-lock.

It is much slower, but is quieter with noisy armours than the normal movement speed.

You also have the option to crouch and move at a similar speed when using a drawn sword or no weapon as you have already noted.

Thanks, I will check help section next time (red face)

Oh… “That” Cuman forest camp… I deal with them by dressing in the Green Caftan and equipment, then wandering up to them while they are relaxing, and shooting the archer in the face from close range… then backing off while finishing him off and dealing with the orange guy either with the sword or bow according to my taste. (If he’s asleep it is even easier - shoot him in the head and it’s all over…)

I’m not overly inclined to honourable fighting against multiple opponents.

Honestly the only invisible walls I could see as acceptable would be the outermost borders of the map–the place the “world” ends and nothing lies beyond. Being funneled around to force random encounters or to force certain approaches to problems and bar others–well, that’s just the worst approach ever.

This shows you have never entered a part of forest that is full of young spruces. There is no way in hell you can get through. It is not about being uncomfortable, but about getting through resistance on par with swimming through honey, just that here everything scratches the hell out of you and tries to pick you eyes out.

But then again, the chosen game area should not have many spruces.

Otherwise, yeah, invisible walls are lazy solution, hopefully chosen for beta version only.

yup, know what you mean, but that is all only discomfort. Same as wet shoes. Unpleasant, but if you behave well and take precautions, you won’t get ill. Same with young forest. It will slow you down incredibly, but you can get through.

oh well, dont wanna to go into this kind of discussion, but I’ve spent decent part of my life in forests.

yeah, agree there with you.
