Is combat system about master strikes?

is that combat system about unblockable ripostes? I found that combos are not effective comparing to master strike because:

  1. Master Strike is EASY to land
  2. Master Strike is SAFE to perform
  3. Master Strike CANNOT be blocked

Most of the time when I try to execute combo I get stunned, knocked, blocked, ripped, raped and erased© . About eight of ten attempts are unsuccessful and I lose HP trying to perform all combination. Using Master Strike you can virtually win the fights with zero damage to your body and armor. Or am I missing something?

I find out that some combos are more easier to perform than others. For example UP->RIGHT->LEFT_CORNER is easier than LEFT->RIGHT->LEFT_CORNER->RIGHT.

Also, subjectively, there’s a difference in chance to block your strike by the enemy depending on the weapon in hand. I’m not sure about that but probably Shortsword works better than Longsword. Is it correct?

There is different defense for weapons. Also shield helps a lot. I never landed combo, it’s unbelievable. They always block my third hit or break the chain so I have to hit different side. Combos are currently useless against strong opponents and I do not need unlocking skill to rape weaker opponents with combos.

as to the shield: combos , if you can get them off, won’t work with a shield and long sword.

So I have to put away shield to be able to combo?

Combos that “support” shields will work with shortsword. Otherwise you have to put it away. But in fact there’s no point to use combos because of reasons described above.

I’ve never done a master strike. Is it like super saiyan or some shit?

No, you just have to block an attack right during the swing animation and before you see the “green shield” perfect block notification, the window is very tight.

I’m not 100% on this but I think the window to do it increases as your defense skill increases.

Yea, maybe for you, I could’t even get bernard to teach it to me; just gave that up; I roll with mace and shield, the perk which gives you 40% chance in clinch,I initiate the clinch, then pop them on the head (I also have headcracker) and 1-3 hits, and everything dies; If I try anything else, like actually trying to fight properly (the way bernard teaches you, and the way the game was intended), I fail miserably, and even lonely bandits kind of take me out; I know a lot of people see the combat system as fun, and good for this game, but I personally find it broken and just bad :expressionless:

For me, the combat system is about maneuvering carefully so that only one enemy is in front of me and - indeed - riposte the hell out of him. I’m currently on my third playthrough at the moment, and a more defensive combat style has proven effective for me, especially against bigger groups and/or heavily armored opponents.
The number of master strikes or combos I landed during my three playthroughs … I can count them on one and a half hand.
I don’t know if that means that combos are not effective, it’s just my prefered style of combat

Clinch is a good option to get a chance to hit an enemy without blocking your strikes. Because skilled opponents block almost every single strike using master strike, so you get hurt, unless they don’t lose the balance.

What? Seriously? :face_with_raised_eyebrow: I can’t believe because Bernard shows this very effective technique at the begining of the game.

He shows you the block (slwo motion) but for the block with unblockable counterattack you have to ask him to teach you Master Strikes. He refuses you if your skill is too low and even then he will test you in the arena first.

Yeah. I only just got into combat and get owned all the time. Love how this game keeps me on my toes.

I find a lot of observations correct here. In real you want to avoid long combos as well. You preferably want to land a single hit that koncks-out/kills oponnent. Best if it is maisterhaw (master cut) but to learn and perform maisterhaw is lifetime task. Its easier than that in KCD.

This concept is good imho.
