Is killing "villager" OK?

So my story is that a NPC named “Villager” at Inn in the Glade always flee from me whenever I walk into the inn. I am sure I did nothing to frighten him. The game then has a pop-up at right hand corner stating that people will notice my bad behavior and start hating me.

It’s so weird because only that same NPC would flee from me, others are fine. At the end I decided to kill him without witness so he won’t bother me again.

I am not sure if there will be any consequence though.

You should be fine. Most important characters relating to quests all have a particular name.

mebbe you accidently killed one on your horse or during a load screen?

guards (your reputation may go down in some cases) and npc with names (you may lose some quest givers) are high risk to kill.

so with npc only showed as “villager” “Hiker” “Bandit” “cumane” , you are good to go, if you hide the body of innocent successfully

i tested it, killed random villager during the night - no one saw me (100%) - hid the body in the woods… next day at certain time (morning) my rep went down. tried several times not once without rep consequence. might be bugged or just designed that way.

The game seems to be a blend of (1) detection awareness and (2) deterrence. With (1), you suffer immediate consequences but you can avoid getting caught whereas with (2) there’s a (delayed) penalty to be paid regardless of whether someone saw you

Sneak in at night and knock her out, Take her lifeless body down to the creek, Remove her clothes and squat up and down over her head repeatedly… When she wakes up, She should give you an “IOU” card. Now ya good.
