A small question assuming there will not be a drm-free version of the game: Will backers be limited to the version of the game for the system they chose or will they have the option to have multiple versions of the game in case they own both Windows or Linux systems (for example) without having to re buy the game?
Hello turin231 we will send several mails to confirm your address, platform and so on before shipping. But you won’t get multiple versions of the game. Just the one you pledged for, on the platform you have chosen.
I plan to buy a console/computer specifically for this game (I play only AoE2 on my laptop currently). Will there be any recommendation issued or differences between consoles/systems (I use Linux on my private laptop) announced?
So you are already preparing with medieval games? Right now we can’t give you any recommendations. It’s still too early to answer this question. Sorry
Thank you for your quick reply. That is good to know.
I understand its mosly an executive/investor decision. I just would like to express for the record how greatly appreciated I think would be from the community the ability to chose to have multiple OS versions of the game with one charge (or even better a DRM-free version as expressed in a different thread).
Thanks again!
Just thinking out loud: considering that this game has a huge potential to bring to gaming people who would otherwise not play, maybe having a special edition that would include the game AND a console would not be the worst of ideas. I suppose that if given exclusivity, the console giants could be interested in a deal that would be profitable for the Warhorse, console maker and player’s in exchange for having a new crowd of players drawn to the given console.
every game has that potential when it comes down to that. and making exclusive deals with consoles. dumbest idea ever.
not to mention they’re going to have to ship you the console. and what difference would it make if someone wants to play this game? he’d buy a console or pc himself.
I’m pretty sure console exclusivity is simply not going to happen, at all. Considering what Warhorse has marketed this as to people on Kickstarter, I don’t think it’s even going to be considered.
I do not think they would do a console exclusivity deal since indeed it was mentioned on the kickstarter.
If a gaming company wants to use kickstarter as permanent platform to fund its games then you need to build trust with the community that play your games (thus a trend of providing multiplatform options, DRM-free games etc). The worst thing you can do to break this is to remove a feature started on the original kickstarter that would hurt user trust and I think console exclusivity would be such a thing. I do not even own a console (and not planning ever) and if they ended up doing an exclusivity deal I would be very reserved of backing another project of theirs.
Plus even though the game is now well known, it does not have that much hype that would significantly sell consoles for an exclusivity deal to make sense.
I didn’t mean totally exclusive for the console, but possibility to buy the game+console as one package for a better price.
Hey there. You are talking about bundles? You are quite quick :), we have to make all deals with Microsoft and PlayStation first, finish our game for all consoles second and then maaaaaaaaybe consider any bundle packs, but that’s something PS or MS would decide, not us. On the other hand we haven’t any blockbuster game (yet ) to present and they do this bundles mostly with big names like Killzone or the Last of us.
As I said, I don’t play much, don’t have a console, and will be buying one just for this game (more will probably come in time I guess). So it just made sense to have it as one package, and as observed before, this game has huge potential to bring non-gaming people to the table, so it might be very interesting for MS/PS too - being able to address a completely new target group is something that no sound businessman can decline.
You have to remember the reason Warhorse went the Kickstarter route: NOBODY thought enough of their project to put serious effort into working with them to make it happen. There’s very little reason for Sony or Microsoft to attach the game to a console sale. It’s just not “big name” enough for that, no matter how excited any of us are about it.
Even though a number of Warhorse people were involved with the well-received Mafia games, it’s not even close to being on par with something like the Destiny bundle Sony is putting out. Bungie has the Halo track record, is just coming off a massively-played beta, and is known by all.
yes, and they probably have many asinine requirements such as exclusive xbox deals. that’s a hefty price to get involved with companies like sony or microsoft.
