Item and enemy scaling?

I always hated enemy and item scaling in any rpg. Are items and loot in this game hand placed?

Also, can I expect hard challenges to have great rewards as far as items go? Are there rare items with huge bonuses? The focus on realism worries me on that aspect.

The only “bonus effect” should be the quality and condition, a master swordsmith makes a blade that’s faster, lighter and holds an edge better than the more simple productions. I guess temporary bonuses like sharpening and poisoning is something that would be cool to see, as I understand sharpening is a thing, can’t say I know the same for poisoning.

Sorry when I said bonuses I meant like a rare sword might just do a lot more damage.

Well, well-made swords would be signifigantly rarer than the average one, however the cost/performance rations would probably get worse and worse the higher you go because thats realistic?

Yea I just hope they don’t sacrifice too much of what makes a game fun to preserve realism. There should be a satisfying progression the whole way through the game

How about enemy and item scaling? Do the enemies and items around you level with you or is everything static and hand placed?

Enemies don’t scale or increase health or any of the sort. There’re no rare weapons that do more damage, only a different variety of weapons you can use or collect. When you increase your main level, the points are used on skills, there’s no, “You’re now level 15.” When you increase your skills, Henry becomes better at it essentially. Such as faster movements and reaction times in combat. Brew stronger or more complicated potions with alchemy. Persuade people in dialogue better by increasing speech, also clothing and status effects speech as well. So no, there’s no “Lvl 5 Bastard Sword +26^ dmg” and no “Lvl 7 Bandit, 150 HP.”

And you don’t gain such things like HP every level, so there is no need to level-scale.

There’s also no drop chances for special or unique items on enemies. The weapon you see them wield, is the weapon you’re going to get.

Basically if you try to do attack a fully armored knight while wearing “some piece of cloth” you will be destroyed. I think that the NPCs given more well crafted gear will also are given better combat skill. (Stamina, chance to parry your hit, etc). Those elite enemies will probably be encountered away from the place where the game begins.

Yeah, to add to that
its more like
Strong bandit
or Heavily armored cuman
peasant with a club

Sharpened sword
Well made/balanced sword

hardened plate armor
mild plate

moreso than lvl 63 bandit chief or level 81 ebony warrior (XD)

There are in fact some very, very nice weapons, which have significantly better stats then common equipment. usually those are unique swords and such, they cost a fockin fortune and are even quite expensive to maintain (weapons get damaged, so train your craftsman skills!).
From what I saw during testing, weapons go in some damage range, for example swords had like 3-4 damage (early low quality swords) to 7-9 damage (unique special swords). Please note that these numbers can be completely different after launch.
Also this is not only metric of sword quality:
it also has stat requrement, weigth, defensive stat, length (quite important these ones), charisma modifier (expensive swords gives you better charisma), and especially - DURABILITY.

Low quality swords and weapons have quite a low durability, which often means that you can destroy your weapon during single encounter with armored opponent - simply put, if you repeatedly smash your dull cheap sword against high quality armor plate, it will eventually break down. It was actually very interesting aspect of the game, when you had to really think about what weaopns and armor you carry around, as you are quite limited by weigth.

You start off with the sword that Henry’s father was working on, which was originally for Sir Radzig. Perhaps later in the story you end up keeping it or handing it over to Sir Radzig. Pretty fancy sword and well made. I will keep it in honor of his sacrifice and I will skewer Sigismund with it as well  if possible.

It would be unhistorical. At most we will ride as a square with knights who rescued Wenceslaus.

Uuuh-huh, I’ll spawn Sigismund and slay him anyways, computer magic! By the way his sword is taken anyways. That’s not really a spoiler, they showed it happening in the trailer. But I have watched a few videos of this youtuber that plays like a moron. I won’t spoil it.

Im pretty sure you can prevent it from being taken with how the devs are selling the game
