Katana confirmed: http://youtu.be/GtWhyDPL06Q?t=5m49s
Certainly hope for a composite and or a recurve bow. a slight recurve helps take the sting out of firing a longbow
That actually works as an Easter-egg itâs not limited by realism. Might as well let the main character smith it himself so you donât need to explain how it came to Europe.
@Paladin sorry I didnât look at the date, i do agree that it doesnât need more attention
Ughghghgh!!! Why has this thread been revived???
I think part of the problem is the forum software; itâs REALLY hard to keep track of threads with new posts. Definitely prefer setups like phpBB.
My friend,
it is impossible. First documented contact between Japan and European world happened in 1543, when a Portuguese ship reached it shores. This is 140 years after the events in
Deliverance. No way anyone knew about Japan at that time, let alone have one of their swords.
And about the video, donât fall to this hype.
I am a huge fan of Japan myself and their history, arms, etcâŠ
Own a few swords, some of them are katana. But the truth should be told:
By any means the Samurai katana is not better than the European
longsword, it is just suited for different type of warfare and skillset.nRemember most of the nobles in Europe wore heavy plate steel armors and/or shields - something which Japan never got. Katana is exceptional at slicing flesh and bone, but against steel armor it is no better than a longsword, even worse because of the differential hardening. And for
dueling (sword bashing) also, because average European swords had
thicker edges than the Japanese katana⊠Also the European martial
styles had blade-to-blade contact which Japanese almost never did and
this doesnât work in katanaâs favor also. Which is the better sword - canât say, those are similar tools used for different purposes. What I prefer - a katana, because of the craftsmaship and moral codex it brings. What will be generally more useful in battle - both, if you know how to wield. In modern times (no armor) a katana will do scary deeds, but in
Medieval Europe it wouldâve been used only against low tier unarmored enemies.
If the setting in KC:Deliverance happen in 1603, I wouldâve backed you up with both hands for including a samurai sword. Who knows, maybe some Portuguese trader managed to brought one and carried it to Central Europe⊠Lord works in mysterious ways .
But in 1403 it is a No-No.
Yup, we use Messers for my 1405 group, game is set 1403, so it should be available.
